Athelington Hall Farm Lodges Reviews

"Excellent for peace and quiet. Lovely clean lodges ."
William - Jul 2022
"Perfect getaway, the lodge was spotless, it was peaceful and generally a fantastic break away. Only problem is very rural you have to drive to get to anything but if you just want to stay in all week then it’s perfect for you. 100% would book again!"
Tia - Jul 2022
"Was a Great cabin and had everything you needed even down to fly catchers the decking area could of been better but over all was nice"
Shane - Jul 2022
"Excellent venue for a quiet break. Plenty of walks surrounding the grounds. Lovely games room. Clean Lodge."
Samantha - Jul 2022
"The lodge had everything we needed and out of all the holidays we’ve had this was by far the cleanest. Normally we find ourselves having to give it a once over with cleaning products but not this place. Location was fantastic for us. We had no intentions of going out for days as we were quite local anyway plus we had covid so wanted 5 days to chill and the peace and quiet was lovely as well as the private hot tub which was checked on daily. The staff let you get on with it, they even provide keysafes to let yourselves in, yet they are always on hand to help if needed. Regular communication via email was sent throughout our stay just to make sure everything was perfect. There are some lively walks we went on too. Just one criticism would be there isn’t a lot to do for young children or families, they have a games room but this isn’t state or the art but if you’re looking to just relax and get away from it all then we can’t fault it. We will return and recommend 10/10"

The owners and staff are so friendly, kind and helpful and treat you like friends. This is our fourth holiday at Ahtelington and we will certainly go back again. All the items you have in your own home are present in the lodge, dishwasher, washer/dryer, fridge, freezer, large cooker plus many more. You get a lovely welcome pack on arrival and the staff make sure your needs are met."

Pamela - Mar 2020
"The lodge was perfect but we had a fault with the hot tub and only got 1 full days use out of it which was disappointing, but cannot fault the lodge at all was perfect everything was well thought of and extra details added in the welcome pack.I think it would be a good idea to offer a discount on a return stay when issues like this arise."
Michelle - Mar 2020
"Great peaceful weekend"
Karen - Mar 2020
"I have been to many lodges holidays over the years. This has been the best and the sauna is a plus. I am surely coming back."
Joyce - Mar 2020
"Walked through the lodge door and it was lovely, very warm as well. Our lodge was for 4 persons 1 king size and 1 with 2 single beds. Just remember it is in the country so remember to take all your food with you. They do have a little shop down the road which you can buy supplies. We never went in as we did take all we needed.
Maybe the welcome pack could contain more than just tea bags & Coffee with UHT Milk like fresh milk and maybe fresh bread just for the first night. Not complaining but just an idea.
The area was beautiful. We was able to take our dog Ollie out for walks and he was secure on the gated decking, ideal for little ones as well. Hot Tub was just lovely.
Would go again. Staff excellent."
Hilary - Mar 2020
"Lovely lodge with everything we needed for a weeks stay."
Christine - Mar 2020
"Very well equiped for self catering needs"
Linda - Feb 2020
"Another great time had by all"
Clair - Feb 2020

Suffolk Owl Sanctuary - IP28 6HX

This amazing owl sanctuary located in the Stowmarket area of Suffolk should be high on your list of places to visit in the area.  The attraction is also a registered charity and carries out important work in the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region.  The sanctuary also raises awareness of owl conservation throughout the UK.  Between April and the end of September there are two superb flying displays each day so you should try and make your visit coincide with one of these displays if you can.
Banham Zoo - NR16 2HE

This award winning wildlife attraction has much to offer both families and couples looking for a fun and educational day out.  You can discover a whole wild world of animals with over 1000 different animals from around the world. You will probably want to try and spend the whole day here so you don's miss out on anything.  Highlights include the amazing animals presentation, the birds of prey display and the feeding talks, all of which take place at set times of the day.  This attraction is fantastic value for money and highly recommended.  Their latest event is the Snow Leopard Club Naming Auction and there has recently been a baby giraffe born at the zoo.
Africa Alive - NR33 7TF
about 21 Miles
Africa Alive is one of Suffolk's largest attractions and one of the most popular in the whole of the UK.  The Africa themed park is very unique and gives visitors the chance to see some amazing creatures in a habitat which is as close to nature as possible. The park can be explored by car and on foot and Hyenas and Giraffes are just some of the animals you will encounter as you make your way around the park. Watch out for the lightning fast Cheetahs and keep your eyes peeled to spot the more reclusive creatures. During a day at Africa Alive there will be plenty of shows and educational talks taking place and if the weather turns then the indoor Adventure Play Ground comes in very handy. The site also has a well stocked Gift Shop and a Discovery Centre.
Melsop Farm Park - NR20 3DT
about 22 Miles
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals.  Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas.  On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks.  Hot food is available over lunch times.

The site also has a family friendly cycle route a gift shop and a small café
Dinosaur Adventure Park - NR9 5JW
about 29 Miles
This fun family day out has been well planned and we think is certainly worth a visit.  New for 2010 is the PrimEvil at Dinosaur Adventure.  Other fun activities include the Dinosaur Trail, Arachnophobia, the Raptor Races and the adventure play area.  The secret animal garden is also popular.  You can play a role in wildlife conservation and sponsor an animal if you wish.  At the moment if you sign up for their newsletter there is a chance to win a family ticket.
Bewilderwood - NR12 8JW
about 30 Miles
Bewilderwood is a fun day out for the whole family located in the Wroxham area of Norfolk.  This imaginative adventure park has won awards and we think kids especially will love the characters and the magical tree houses. You can even book your ticket online and beat the queues by visiting their website where you can also view video clips of the park. This place is also the setting for the book 'A Boggle at BeWILDerwood', by local children's author Tom Blofeld.  Parents are not left out either as you're encouraged to take part and play alongside your children.
Colchester Zoo - CO3 0SL
about 34 Miles
Colchester Zoo is a fantastic place to visit with something for all the family.  Wander around and see the array of animals in excellent habitats.  Don't forget to visit the Leopards at Ussuri Falls, this new expansion can be located opposte the White Tiger Valley and the Medellin Momkeys.  Other popular areas of the zoo include Tiger Taiga, Chimp World and Wallaby Walkabout.   Look out for special events throughout the year such as Shriek Week on Halloween.  If you book tickets online you can obtain a discount of 10% and are also fast tracked on entry to the zoo - a great idea in the school holidays.

This is a museum with a difference and a must see if you are into horse racing.  You can take guided tours around the museum or choose to wander round yourself admiring the exhibits.  New for 2010 is a Junior Fun Tour which is ideal for children.  Simply ask the gallery staff for a Fun Tour pack when you enter the museum and kids can answer questions and spot clues and tips on the way round.  One of the most popular recent exhibitions is the Thoroughbred: State of the Art exhibition in Gallery 5 on until 31st October.  Check out their websites for the latest exhibitions.

if you and your family are interested in nature and wildlife then Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens is the perfect place for a day out. This beautiful area of national parkland is home to a huge range of common and rare birds from sparrows to Red Crowned Cranes and also has a red squirrel enclosure - part of a conservation programme and now home to a family of adorable squirrels. Other activities to enjoy at Pensthorpe include pond dipping and Landrover discovery tours. Pensthorpe also played host to BBC'S Springwatch in 2010.
