Close to where the Norfolk and Suffolk borders meet, and set in tranquil woodland on the banks of the River Thet, Thorpe Forest Lodges are luxurious, stylish and ecologically designed. The wonderful Norfolk Broads are within an hour's drive, and Bury St Edmunds, Norwich and Cambridge are all easily accessible.
As well as the idyllic setting which you can explore on beautiful walks and nature trails, you can also go horse riding, hire a mountain bike and try out the many other outdoor pursuits available. There's an activity centre, a shop and coffee lounge and a children's play area. Thorpe Forest also has a team of rangers ready and waiting to take you on tours and other activities.
The accommodation here really is superb and you can choose to stay within the forest itself, or in one of the lovely open glades. Golden Oak Hideaway is really special - designed for couples, it has panoramic views of the forest, a sunken bath for two, underfloor heating and a log burning stove. There is a gorgeous decking area with a hammock and hot tub.
Thetford Forest consists of nearly 19,000 hectares of pines, heathland and broadleaf trees and is home to a multitude of native British wildlife. Lynford Arboretum has over 200 tree species, including mature Norwegian Spruce and an extremely ancient oak tree.

The Welcome written in scrabble squares was just one of the little touches that meant so much. Amazing accommodation, the friendliest staff We have ever meet, nothing was a problem. Supper dog friendly, bowls of water and treats in the forest retreat. The best holiday we have had in years
The lodge was well equipped for our short stay and the kitchen had everything we needed. The hot-tub was very clean and checked every day. The area around the cabin was very well looked after and the cabins are very large with plenty of space.
The cabin wasn't the cleanest when we arrived but it wasn't enough to put a mark on our holiday at all. I would also have liked a little storage in the bedroom for clothes, there were no drawers or cupboards so we had to holiday out of our bags which may bother other guests.
The accommodation is superb. Much bigger than I expected. There was 6 Adults and a baby and there was more than enough room. The hot tub and outdoor dining area was the icing on the cake. Perfect.
Dirty when we arrived unfortunately. Sofa a little bit tatty and tv was slow and unresponsive. Also wifi issue was a massive inconvenience as some functions of the tv didn't work.
Holiday Period rare was extortionate
Couldnāt fault a single thing, the lodge was clean and tidy, perfect for children and dogs, we had a lovely family break.
Really enjoyed our weekend stay, enjoyed the luxury of a hot tub and a lovely BBQ on the decking. It would have been good if WiFi was included, you had to pay extra for this and I felt we had paid enough already (school holiday season, so not cheap!)
Location was good, we went to Go Ape at Thetford and took our bikes with us round the bike tracks there too. We took part in the rowing and kayaking at Forest Lodges, which was nice. There was a cafe on site, would have been nice to have a pool there and a few other activities for older children, but having said that it wouldn't have been so peaceful
Would definitely return, the lodge was lovely, spacious and clean with everything you need, but would try and avoid school holiday season purely due to the prices.
Much better than expected....sorry.....don't usually take breaks in UK.
Lovely place ,lovely lodge you do need a car though as there's not public transport.
There's no mobile signal and no public telephone so brilliant for total peace and quite. Great place to bring your dog too.
Loved the lodge, only trouble when we tried to book on site activities they were ALL fully booked, which meant we had to travel quite far to be able to find things to do with grown up teenagers. Due to the amount of driving needed to be done to find things to do wasn't as relaxing has had hoped for.
We had a wonderful time and the lodge was beautiful. The hot tub made it and the surroundings were just so peaceful and relaxing, just what we needed!! Staff were so helpful
We had never been to Thorpe Forest before but we have already decided that we will return. The area is extremely peaceful, which is what we wanted from our holiday. The staff were very helpful and the accommodation was clean and very adequate, especially as we have an 8 month old and 5 year old! We stayed in the Golden Oak lodge with the hot tub which was worth the upgrade from the lower priced lodge. It was extremely spacious and warm. The kitchen was well equipped and clean however, the cooker had no instructions on how to use so it was trial and error but we got there in the end! We enjoyed the freedom of being self catering and having no schedule. We used the lodge as a base and ventured out to different places including Great Yarmouth (1hr away). We did spend the extra Ā£40 for the wifi/entertainment package which helped on rainy days/mornings getting ready. There are plenty of supermarkets within a 10/15 minute drive and pubs/restaurants close by too.
All in all, it was a great break but a bit pricey (school holiday prices!) but would return if booked in advance.
Fantastic best holiday we have had in years
Such a beautiful lodge, surroundings are lovely. Enough room to play some ball games. A completely relaxing break which is exactly what we wanted
This award winning wildlife attraction has much to offer both families and couples looking for a fun and educational day out. You can discover a whole wild world of animals with over 1000 different animals from around the world. You will probably want to try and spend the whole day here so you don's miss out on anything. Highlights include the amazing animals presentation, the birds of prey display and the feeding talks, all of which take place at set times of the day. This attraction is fantastic value for money and highly recommended. Their latest event is the Snow Leopard Club Naming Auction and there has recently been a baby giraffe born at the zoo.
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals. Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas. On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks. Hot food is available over lunch times.
The National Trust Ickworth House, Park & Gardens is a Beautiful 1800 acre country estate with many attractions including a fantastic adventure playground for the children and a range of nature trails which the whole family will enjoy. The site also has a family friendly cycle route a gift shop and a small café
This amazing owl sanctuary located in the Stowmarket area of Suffolk should be high on your list of places to visit in the area. The attraction is also a registered charity and carries out important work in the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region. The sanctuary also raises awareness of owl conservation throughout the UK. Between April and the end of September there are two superb flying displays each day so you should try and make your visit coincide with one of these displays if you can.
