Close to where the Norfolk and Suffolk borders meet, and set in tranquil woodland on the banks of the River Thet, Thorpe Forest Lodges are luxurious, stylish and ecologically designed. The wonderful Norfolk Broads are within an hour's drive, and Bury St Edmunds, Norwich and Cambridge are all easily accessible.

As well as the idyllic setting which you can explore on beautiful walks and nature trails, you can also go horse riding, hire a mountain bike and try out the many other outdoor pursuits available. There's an activity centre, a shop and coffee lounge and a children's play area. Thorpe Forest also has a team of rangers ready and waiting to take you on tours and other activities.

The accommodation here really is superb and you can choose to stay within the forest itself, or in one of the lovely open glades. Golden Oak Hideaway is really special - designed for couples, it has panoramic views of the forest, a sunken bath for two, underfloor heating and a log burning stove. There is a gorgeous decking area with a hammock and hot tub.

Thetford Forest consists of nearly 19,000 hectares of pines, heathland and broadleaf trees and is home to a multitude of native British wildlife. Lynford Arboretum has over 200 tree species, including mature Norwegian Spruce and an extremely ancient oak tree.

Our Top Tip
"You could try paintballing and archery - and take in some popular music acts at the Forest Live Festival, each year in June."

Great size accommodation, hot tub was clean and warm. The heating was independently controlled for different rooms so we could get our swimming gear dry but keep the bedrooms cooler.

The lodge was lovely and clean on arrival and very well equipped. This was our first holiday with our mud/water loving Labrador puppy and I was nervous she would turn it into something that resembles our home, but it was perfect for us and the floors were easy to sweep at the end of each day.
The hot tub was sublime and there was nothing better than at the end of a long day sitting in it looking up at the stars.

I'm not usually so gushy but from the moment you arrive, the check in chat is so welcoming. It was even more than we expected, so beautiful and relaxing. It's not a wild wood, but there are forests outside the "Forest holiday's area" to explore and it all worked so well. We especially liked the rubber ducky man coming to sort our hot tub out daily.
Money wise, it's not cheap and the only reason I say value for money wasn't a ten is because we were unable to get a lodge for just 2 so had to pay for more people than were there and everything is additional, bit surprised to pay extra for wifi in this day and age.

But dont let that stop you treating yourself to this lux!!

Fantastic lodges, if this is the cheapest I can only imagine how good the top lodges are. You didn't feel like you'd missed out on the luxury as even the Copper Beech lodges were lovely. We didn't have a bread board which seemed a staple item to leave out, and a little pointer in how the oven works would have been useful.

Spacious & stylish.
What a beautiful setting, the lodge was well appointed but a couple of points. With dogs welcome it would be a good idea to leave a vacuum available. The wooden floor needed a good steam clean which we would not have noticed but we had an 8 month old crawling and her knees feet and hands were black despite sweeping the floor each morning and washing with mop. The wi fi was not available and in the normal set up would not have been an issue but my daughter had an important application to put in and had to go off site a couple of times to complete it. If you say you have wi fi then you have to deliver. Just one other thing the dishwasher was not working efficiently, we had to re wash a number of things every time we used it. Having said that we loved the venue.
Had a wonderful break here. worked well as a group of 7 of mixed ages.really impressed with high standed of the lodges and whole site.would go again. we all agreed we all had a fab time
The staff were very welcoming on arrival and continued to be helpful throughout our short stay. We enjoyed the activities and would have liked the opportunity to do a few more. Unfortunately, the zip wire we could see in the forest wasn't part of Forest Holidays. The Forest Ranger and Canoes were good activities to do.
was the perfect holiday for us and our 2.5 year old son. lovely hot tub very spacious kitchen work surface but small for a 3 bedroom cabin. lovely bike rides, lovely villages close by, a hidden gem was horses running free a very short drive away. its just lovely in Thetford. little bit tired accommodation. could do with small touch ups and the hot tub cover defiantly needs replacing. but did not hamper the holiday.
Fantastic, booked last minute and was amazing. Bike hire a bit expensive tho. Millie my daughter had a bad fall and was looked after really well. Great food & staff
Fantastic place, great accommodation & brilliant staff. Couldn't have wished for a better break on Mothers Day Weekend.
Lovely stay, lodges are fabulous only criticism would be the "centre parts" approach to making money, wi if costs extra, movies are extra and so on, come well packed and bring all you need, lovely place and lodge but after you have paid a lot of money would have been nice to get a little more in lodge.
Welcomed by a lovely lady on reception who sat us down and went through site amenities, our lodge & nearby dog friendly pubs – even our excitable 9 month old Labrador puppy was made a fuss of and given her weight in dog treats. The Customer Service throughout our entire stay was first class. The surrounding area is beautiful with lots of wildlife to see and we walked for MILES (and got a little lost). The shop on site is well equipped and the decking area outside is perfect for a well earned cold drink after a trek through the forest. Bravely, (as we had our 19 & 20 year old daughters with us) we didn't opt for the Wifi/Sky package and with no mobile reception in the lodge we were completely off grid... bliss!
Relaxing retreat.
Amazing holiday, we will definately go back! We stayed 4 nights, we wanted a break from work and from people being able to get hold of us so we were not bothered about wifi! We also were not bothered about a hot tub or wood burner for this holiday. Our son and dog loved it, our son keeps asking to go back! We didnt get to walk all the routes as one was too muddy and the other to long for our sons little legs! It was nice being able to step out of the lodge straight into the woods. Our son liked the play apperatus dotted about along the walk. The lodge itself was so comfy! The facilities were great, the only minor fault was that the sofa and cushions had a few dirty marks on them on arrival, but that was it. Everything else was clean. Good working kitchen and bathroom facilities also. We didnt have a problem with the heating, it was easy to use. We were so lucky with the warm weather we had our first bbq of the year on the decking in March! We really liked how the staff were so relaxed about dogs, making a fuss of ours and allowing dogs in the cafe. When leaving we sat outside the cafe with a hot drink. Our son liked playing the games in the cafe too! Our dog liked the fact that he had a welcome treat waiting for him in the lodge on arrival!! So many positives, another big one was that there wasnt rule after rule written everywhere, we could all just relax and enjoy our break! We loved the fact we could open the curtains and the view out of the huge windows was squirrels and birds playing in the trees! So peaceful! The only noise, which sometimes rattled the windows was aircraft from the local RAF base flying over. We would have liked check in times to be a bit earlier than 4pm and later than 10am. We will know for next time to book extra time. The location was easy for us to get to, it was 10mins drive to tescos and 30mins to Bury st Edmunds. We didnt take part in any of the activities. We cant really fault this holiday, every aspect was great! We will look for good deals and book again in the future!

This amazing owl sanctuary located in the Stowmarket area of Suffolk should be high on your list of places to visit in the area.  The attraction is also a registered charity and carries out important work in the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region.  The sanctuary also raises awareness of owl conservation throughout the UK.  Between April and the end of September there are two superb flying displays each day so you should try and make your visit coincide with one of these displays if you can.
