Avon Wood is a small and peaceful park offering the perfect setting for a relaxing or romantic holiday. The location is simply stunning and the lodges are nestled deep within natural woodland. Just a short downhill stroll will bring you to the shores of the beautiful Lake Windermere where there are boat launching facilities. Although the lodges feel very secluded they are not too isolated and the lively village of Bowness is just 5 miles away.  Avon Wood is an ideal base for touring the National Park, visiting stately homes and shopping in market towns. There is also an on site Launderette.

Accommodation at Avon Wood is in caravans or lodges. The Ambleside retreat lodge is perfect for a couple with one double bedroom, private hot tub and complimentary wine and chocolates on arrival. The Retreat Lodge is a good choice for two couples with two double bedrooms and patio with hot tub. The Blakeholm lodge is a good option for families with three bedrooms and furnished patio. All of the lodges have well equipped kitchens and TV/DVD player.

Beautifully sited lodge with stunning views over Lake Windermere that can be appreciated from the luxury of the hot tub. The lodge is stylish, comfortable and very well equipped with all that you could need. It is so spacious there is one bathroom with shower and a larger bathroom with a luxurious free-standing bath. The bedroom has an adjoining dressing room as well. We will definitely return.

When we arrived, we were shown how everything worked in the lodge.
The lodge was beautiful! It was spotlessly clean and had loads of little homely touches that you wouldn't find in a hotel or b & b. The owner had even gone as far as getting flowers (at my fiancè's request) and putting them in vases all over the lodge! Oh and the bottle of prosecco and box of chocolates for us to enjoy too! This were lovely touches as it showed that they are willing to go that extra mile for guests. There were no problems throughout our stay so we didn't have to bother the owner and vice versa; it was very private and were able to just get on with our holiday!
The hot tub was totally amazing! The layout of the lodge allows guests to go from the bathroom out to the hot tub which is fantastic as i wouldn't want to walk through the whole place getting everywhere wet.
All in all an amazing experience at Avonwood and we will definitely be returning very soon!!!

It was lovelie weather wasn't so good but that's not the fault of Avon wood that didn't stop us enjoying our selfs it was quiet we weren't overlooked total privacy the lodge was cosy well equipped.
David
This is a beautifully landscaped site. When we visited in May all the azaleas and rhododendrons were in full flower. There is a path down to the shore of Lake Windermere from where you can appreciate the lake - lovely on a peaceful spring evening. Only 5 miles from Bowness and plenty of lovely walks in the area. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.
Sharon

Fun Days Out near Avon Wood

Lakeland's Wildlife Oasis - about 10 Miles
Here at the Wildlife Oasis you can really get up close to the animals and experience a mix of exotic wildlife and hand son displays.  See butterflies, birds and even bats flying around.  You don't have to plan your visit according to weather either with the tropical hall and butterfly house undercover.  Sunny days are ideal for some of the inhabitants however with the monkeys and Lemurs loving to sunbathe.  The mission of Lakeland's Wildlife Oasis is to engender and foster an interest and appreciation of the natural world which, in our belief underpins wildlife conservation; and, where possible to contribute and encourage contribution to the conservation of wildlife and wild places.  You know that you are helping with this mission if you choose to visit.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - about 10 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - about 10 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - about 13 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.
