Due to Penzance’s incredible location, it’s coastline is a huge draw for visitors. Alongside the expected boat and kayak hire, there are some unusual coastal attractions. Why not have a dip in the Jubilee Pool. This art deco style lido opened in 1935 and looks out over the beautiful St. Michaels Mount. It’s refurbishment in 2014 has modernised this beautiful pool, and they offer a range of activities such as yoga and circuits at the complex. If you are looking to head out onto the open sea itself, why no take a boat tour to learn more about the wildlife, geology and history of this section of the Cornish coastline. Or, take an unexpected diving opportunity and snorkel with Blue Sharks. Running through the summer months take the opportunity to be surrounded by sharks in English waters. It should be noted that there is no guarantee of spotting sharks as they are wild animals, but should you be lucky enough, it will be a truly magical experience.
Culture
The culture surrounding the South West is influenced by a wide range of historical time periods. Starting with the late Neolithic, take a trip to the Merry Maidens. This awe inspiring standing stone circle is 78ft in diameter and is one of the best preserved stone circles in the UK. They are called the Merry Maidens as the fable has it that 19 women were turned to stone for dancing on a Sunday. These stones are just one example of the many that lie around this area.
Another cultural highlight near Penzance is the Minak Theatre. Built by hand, this incredible open air amphitheater looks out over the Atlantic Ocean. Visit as part of a day trip out of Penzance, or try and catch a performance in this incredible venue. They stage a range of genres from musicals to plays and solo performers. The area surrounding Penzance is home to a range of natural, cultural and technological attractions. One of the natural highlights is the Trengwainton Garden. This national trust property is full of attractive and exotic plant species. If your trip is in the spring, be sure to head to Trengwainton to see the incredible blossoms. The addition of a café and shop means you can spend the whole day in this natural oasis. If you fancy exploring more of the country, why not take a trip to the Scilly Isles.
