Sun Hill Lodges Reviews

"Two lovely bedrooms and the hot tub area is great! Well furnished and equipped."
Andrew - Oct 2024
"Beautiful lodge, with great space and very comfortable beds in all bedrooms. Hot tub was a nice treat, and the robes and slippers were very much appreciated. Isolated location, car needed to get to various nearby villages, etc however would highly recommend."
Verified Guest - Oct 2024
"Really quiet location but with good road acces , alborada very luxurious , made full use of the log burner with very generous supply of logs , walks waterfalls and castle ruins couldn't ask for more , will definitely rebook ."
Jason and steph - Oct 2024
"Everything you could need was available, Hot tub was great it got used every night. Rooms were amazing and all rooms had their own en-suite."
Louise - Sep 2024
"Lodge looking a little dated, had to wipe fridge out every morning as freezer was leaking. Loads of patched up mastic around bottom of shower area"
Verified Guest - Sep 2024
"Just needed more lighting in the kitchen area."

"Beautiful lodge with fabulous views"
Sharon - Jun 2024
"7th visit to sun hill lodges, first time in the Lillie lodge, the pond is what makes this lodge tranquil. Watching the black swans, ducks and ducklings along with the rabbits in a morning whilst having a brew is heaven. I used the sauna once and thought it was very small even for just one person, not comfortable to use and to me is a waste of space in the bathroom. Overall a lovely lodge."
Leigh-ann - Jun 2024
"Beautiful lodges in a beautiful location. Have stayed here a few times now we wouldnt go anywhere else. The William lodge was looking a little tired in places cooker knob was burnt and bathroom bin was dented and underneath the bedroom furniture was a bit dusty but these things were superficial really and didnt spoil our stay at all Just things that can be improved to ensure it maintain its luxury rating. We had another lovely holiday and cant wait to return"
Elizabeth - May 2024
"Lovely relaxing holiday lovely area Yorkshire people are so friendly"
Patricia - May 2024
"We have stayed in this particular lodge twice sauna hot tub are great as older people we find a high backed chair more comfortable than sofas seems the modern trend now is low backed sofas and bucket chairs which are no good for us but this is just our personal view most of the lodges have a large smeg fridge freezer unfortunately the Lillie only has a small fridge with ice box which isnt much good if you like to stock up. The Lillie is only for two people so maybe when they update the seating it would be nice to see two high backed leather chairs in situ overall sun hill lodges is a fantastic place to stay wether for a short break or a longer one which we like a week or a fortnight"
Verified Guest - May 2024
"I dont really want to leave a good review, as other people will find out about this amazing accommodation. The log cabins were very well equipped, decorated to an high standard and included everything you could need. Were used to larger accommodation, but the tranquility and amazing views whilst sat on the very large veranda, meant this was never an issue (we knew the size when booking, so this is not a criticism.) We were blessed were lovely weather during our stay, so this added to the pleasure. It was a lovely treat seeing the race horses galloping every now and then up the track on a morning. The only thing which could be improved, is chicken wire round the fences to make it dog friendly. We were worried our dog would upset the horses in the next paddock and as a result had to keep her on the lead the whole time we stayed. We loved this accommodation and will definitely be back ????"
Vickie - May 2024
"nice break very peaceful"
Andrew - May 2024
"Highly Recommend Anyone to stay at Sunhill Lodges. A Totally Relaxing, Peaceful stay away from it All Place. Second time staying here, this time in a different Lodge; various ones to choose from. Will be booking again, maybe later in the year, IF available, as they are soon booked up. If you like walking; recommend a walk up Leyburn Shawl; Views are Stunning. (Map on wall, in Leyburn Market place) Thorp Perrow, also excellent place to visit; Beautiful Arboretum."
Christine - May 2024
"A lovely peaceful setting for this lodge, perfect watching the wildlife outside on the pond."
Verified Guest - Apr 2024
"Amazing holiday we cant wait to come back and explore new things!"
Vicki - Apr 2024
"Our 6 stay in this lodge and as always everything was perfect. Can't wait tonbw back again in August"
Rachel - Apr 2024
"This must be our fifth visit to Sunhill Lodges we love the place, the location and the quality of the lodges. I note the issues I raised last year were sorted where we stayed but I also noted that some of those who had stayed in the same lodge recently had raised faults which were still present when we arrived such as the fridge internal shelf loose (broken) and bedroom remote control for TV doesnt turn the TV off. We also noted that no slippers were provided with the dressing gowns and the only cloth we had to clean up things was dirty which we threw away and replaced. We dont like leaving things dirty when we are lucky to stay at someones holiday home so some cleaning spray and cloths would be handy to be considered next time. That is the only reason I have marked the cost down as this is described as luxury thats all. Anyway we will be booking again as its still a very nice place to stay. Please dont take the review as negative its not."
Robert - Apr 2024
"We stayed at Sun Hill Lodged and it was a 1630 check in, the lodge was open and we didn't see any staff. There was a note saying if we wanted any additional logs to call before 1600...We tried calling Saturday morning to no avail. So we had to go to try and source logs. The hot tub was tiny and it was very cozy with 4 adults in. Other than that the stay was fantastic, the views were phenomenal, the wildlife was stunning. The cabin was beautifully designed and had all the facilities you could ask for. We especially like the en-suites and not having to share a toilet with friends (haha). They had a really pretty welcome basket waiting for us, it had a drinks voucher for a local restaurant, which unfortunately was fully booked. It had bread, milk and butter which was really"

"Perfect little hamlet for a getaway."
Verified Guest - Feb 2024
"Loved the location of this cabin. It is beautifully decorated and has so many little extras that really add to your stay. We really enjoyed the view from the hot tub and watching the race horses train."
Verified Guest - Feb 2024
"The only issues are storage if you are storing food there. We we eating out most days so wasnt an issue for us. The fridge shelf in the door is not very secure so you have to be careful closing the door otherwise the contents fall into the fridge. Didnt ruin the holiday and not a massive issue."
Lee - Feb 2024
"We had Christmas here as a family, all had a great time and the lodge was great as always everything you need"
Gail - Jan 2024
"So peaceful, just what was needed, lots of wildlife,"
Elaine - Nov 2023
"Absolutely amazing lodge. Clean and welcoming with easy check in and a basket of little extras waiting for our arrival. Would definitely recommend visiting."
RUSSELL - Aug 2022
"Fantastic relaxing week in the Yorkshire Dales. The cabin was great and the views were stunning. If I lived closer to the Dales and if I was richer I’d go all the time."
Claire - Jul 2022
"This was our 3rd stay at Sunhill Lodges, the lodges are beautiful, if you are looking for a relaxing time away then this is the perfect place, however there are still lots of lovely places to visit close by. I would definitely recommend it to friends and family."
Elaine - Jul 2022
"Beautiful place lodge was gorgeous, only cpl faults dog hair on the sofas and a doggy smell when we arrived, the bed is a king with a super king matress on so slight over hang on one side, lodge was well equipped though and the hot tub amazing would recommend"
Louise - Jul 2022
"Exceptional location in a beautiful part of the country. Panoramic views and hassle free stay."
Pam - Jul 2022
"Great lodge, excellent facilities, no issues at all."

Leslie - Jul 2022
"Excellent lodge with lots of amenities. Great location for discovery the Yorkshire dales."
Michael - Jul 2022
"Another fantastic stay at sunhill, staff were really helpful whenever we needed them. Beautiful location and stunning lodge."
Michelle - Jul 2022
"This was our 3rd visit to these luxurious, peaceful lodges with the most beautiful views. We can't wait to book a return visit for next year. We have holidayed in many lodges and these with the location are the best if you are wanting a relaxing break ??"
Vanessa - Jul 2022
"Fantastic location in beautiful surroundings. Lillie Lodge was great, with plenty of space for two, a fabulous bathroom including a sauna, a comfortable bed. The Welcome basket was a lovely thought including a bottle of wine also complimentary QUALITY toiletries and very much appreciated and also hot tub towels provided. Outside area with furniture and a fire pit and gas bbq which came in useful. We were there for hottest two days on record, we sat out at night watching the black swans, ducks/ducklings on the pond and young rabbits chasing each other and the beautiful horses in the field. Also the little wren that has got a nest in the roof of the lodge, a regular visitor to the garden. Only one negative for us was the size of the fridge freezer normal size fridge with small freezer compartment, but to some it may not be an issue. This really is a lovely lodge and would definitely return and recommend to family and friends. Thank you."
Alison - Jul 2022
"4th visit to Sunhill, excellent lodges. Only improvement would be more lodges with secure gardens."
Graham - Jun 2022

There is also a cafe and indoor play area for when the weather is not on your side.
Lightwater Valley - HG4 3HT

Situated in the Ripon area of North Yorkshire this popular theme park makes a fantastic day out for the whole family.  The more daring will love the big and thrilling rides such as Raptor Attack, The Ultimate and Trauma Tower.  For the little ones there are some excellent attractions such as Flying Camels, Dodgems and a Magic Wheel.  Toddlers will like the Dragon Boats and the Lightwater Express amongst other things. There are over 40 rides and attractions in total and we think this is excellent value for money too.  If you book your tickets in advance online you can save even more money and beat the queues.

Thanks to the Archaeologists from York Archaeological Trust the amazing houses, workshops and backyards of the Viking-Age city of Jorvik are on display and give a clear insight to the way of life all those years ago.  The site aims to offer an interactive experience with the state of the art time capsule and the blacksmith's furnace being the top attractions.
Jorvik DIG - YO1 9RY
about 36 Miles
Dig is a unique and somewhat educational attraction in York offering children the opportunity to enjoy excavation, discovery, and digging. Within the site is a discovery centre, several pits filled with Roman and Medieval ruins and a science lab where children can take part in exciting experiments. Staff are on hand at all times to help the children and to ensure they get the most from the experience. The attraction can get busy during school holidays and pre booking is recommended.
Castle Howard - YO60 7DA
about 36 Miles
Castle Howard is one of the regions most beautiful and historic landmarks and is located in 1,000 acres of parkland with breathtaking gardens to explore. As well as exploring the castle visitors can enjoy attractios including the unique Land Train - the best way to see the entire park. There is also a large lake offering boat trips during the summer months. In high season the site is very popular with families and offers organised activities for children including tours, talks, crafting and animal encounters. The site also has a Nature Trail which is fun for the whole family and an Adventure Playground where children can run off some energy.
Flamingo Land - YO60 7EW

Situated in Malton in North Yorkshire this has to be one of our favourite family days out.  It's a theme park and zoo all in one stretching over a massive 400 acres. With thrilling rides for the very daring like Cliff Hanger, Corkscrew and Kumali, there are also more gentle rides for the little ones such as Frog Hopper and Helitoys.  Family fun attractions include the 4D cinema, the lost river ride and the Little Monsters Den of Mischief. Check out their website for seasonal events which take place throughout the year and you can also gain more information about the zoo.  Flamingo Land is a resort as well as a theme park so you can also book accommodation there.
