Wells Cathedral is an imposing gothic structure situated in the heart of the city. It dates back to the 13th century – though there has been an abbey church on the site from as early as 705 AD. Inside visitors will find a chained library with books dating back to the 16th century and an enormous organ that is still in use to this day. The Cathedral houses some of the most impressive collections of medieval sculpture in Europe, with around 400 statues still standing inside its impressive walls.
