These stylish lakeside lodges sit in a beautifully unspoilt part of the Lake District on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, with gorgeous views over stunning countryside and a multitude of walks right on the doorstep. The pretty market towns of Keswick, Cockermouth and Ambleside are all within easy driving distance.

You can go fishing or take a private boat on the lake if you fancy a tranquil day on the water. There are plenty of good pubs and restaurants close by - we love Overwater Hall in Cumbria (AA recognised) and the 16th century Priest Hole restaurant in Ambleside - it serves Mediterranean and English food, freshly prepared daily.

All the lodges at Bassenthwaite are superbly styled and extremely comfortable and some sit right at the water's edge with amazing views over the lake. Lakeland Lodge Plus sleeps six people and has French doors that open out onto a patio with private hot tub, perfect for warm, relaxing evenings.

Carlisle Castle is well worth a visit; built originally in 1092, it's where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. As well as the many water sports that the Lakes are renowned for (head to Windermere for waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing and canoeing).

Our Top Tip
"you could also enjoy the climbing wall at Keswick and go indoor karting in Mayport."

The lodge was very clean and tidy. The only thing was it could do with a little makeover. I'm being a bit picky.

The lodge was spotlessly clean and it was well maintained, furnished and comfortable. The views from the balcony were great. Towels, tea towels , washing up liquid , cleaning materials , hair dryer, picnic bag and hamper were all provided. The two bathrooms were spacious and beautifully decorated. I had a great time here and can honestly say it is the first time for a long time that I have found both the location and accommodation perfect. I will definitely return to this lovely area again and would highly recommend this lodge.

Lovely peaceful lodge with lovely staff

The lodges are next to the lake so you can access the lake with watercraft easily. The views are lovely and the park is peaceful. For shopping Keswick is just up the road and there is a large Tesco at Workington which was about 16 miles.

We are a group of 4 adults ( friends, 2 couples) who stayed here for a long weekend. From the moment we stepped into the lodge we were happy. It was beautiful. The attitude of the staff is top class from booking to leaving. The staff on site are friendly and just want your stay to be the best. A big thank you must go to them all. The lodge had everything we needed. It was 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms and a hot tub. The lodges are approximately 6 miles from Keswick off a busy main road but where they are situated in a lovely quiet area. It was perfect.

Fun Days Out near Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges

We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - about 13 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - about 17 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
