When is the best time to stay?
You can stay at the Forest all year round and enjoy the landscape as it changes through the seasons. But the warmest months are April to August and make for an easy-going time for a family to explore the area.
Is this a good family break?
Yes, this is a very family-friendly holiday with plenty of activities for all ages, from ranger walks, to cycling trails, picnic spots and child-friendly outdoor activities. Some destinations also have access to indoor heated swimming pools too.
What kind of activities can you do?
There are lots of activities for couples, gorups of friends and families in the Forest including hiking, cycling, wildlife spotting, canoeing and zip-lining to name a few! Explore the mesmerising Puzzlewood, venture into Clearwell Caves or enjoy the scenery in style on the Dean Forest Railway.
What’s the weather like?
Like any part of the UK, the weather in the Forest of Dean can be unpredictable but temperatures in Spring and Summer average highs of around 15-20°C (59-68°F). Autumn is still a great time to stay in a lodge here with temps from 5-15°C (41-59°F). You can still stay in the Winter and enjoy the winter wonderland when snow falls.
Can I bring my pet to a lodge in the Forest of Dean?
Many lodges in the Forest are pet friendly but you’ll need to check in advance. The area itself is very welcoming to dogs and you’ll find restaurants, cafes and bars that allow pets throughout.
Are there restaurants or shops nearby?
Yes. While you’re ‘out in the sticks’ you’ve got a great variety of places to dine out at in and around the Forest of Dean. There are many eateries and local shops within a short distance of your lodge.
Can you get Wifi?
Yes, generally speaking internet access is good throughout the Forest but check in advance to make sure and to find out any charges that may apply at the lodge.
Is there anywhere near our lodge to visit?
Yes, there are a number of brilliant attractions in and around this area that make for a fun family day out, or something special to do as a couple. Exploring the market towns like Ross-on-Wye is a lot of fun, or you can visit the ruins of Tintern Abbey, or take a cruise on the River Wye itself. If you want something a little more lively, the nearby cities of Gloucester and Hereford offer lots to see and do as well.
