Written By

Bath

The city of Bath is the quintessential destination for a short break in the UK, fusing culture and relaxation in a way that very few UK destinations can achieve.

The Roman heritage is infused in every aspect of the city, but particularly in the Roman baths which are central to any visit. Take a tour or visit the museum to learn all about the history of the Roman empire in Britain and find out what makes the baths such a key destination for ancient Romans and modern-day visitors alike, plus enjoy some Roman-inspired spa treatments.

An hour’s drive from Bath is an iconic site of historic significance, Stonehenge, which is another key destination on the British staycation checklist. Look for accommodation halfway between the two to maximise your potential for cultural immersion.

Where to stay

Hares Barn, Bath, Wiltshire

With accommodation for up to four guests, this converted barn is tastefully decorated inside, providing all the mod-cons you could want for a short break, including a BBQ and hot tub in the garden area. Conveniently located between Bath and Stonehenge for the ultimate knowledge-gathering short break, Hares Barn is also well suited to enjoy the beautiful Wiltshire countryside.

Kent

Described at the garden of England, Kent is home to some of the most picturesque villages in the country including Aylesford, Broadstairs and Wye which are easily enjoyed during a short UK break.

Travelling along the coast you will see impressive geological sites such as the white cliffs of Dover, or you could take a walk along the sandy beaches at Folkestone and enjoy the late summer sun by the sea. Travelling inland, you will be able to visit Canterbury Cathedral, with its beautiful architecture and strong literary heritage as the pilgrimage destination in Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales.
