Cumbria is a beautiful area and the jewel in the crown is the Lake District National Park where you can enjoy numerous outdoor activities and water sports. The area also has many family attractions including Beatrix Potter’s Hill Top farmhouse near Sawrey and Lakes Aquarium in Ulverston which is both fun and educational for adults and kids alike.

5 Things to do during your hot tub break in Cumbria

Depending on when you take your lodge break, Cumbria can offer up some very rainy days. It's part of the charm of going to the lakes. While you can always enjoy your hot tub and those dark skies, there are lots of good reasons to venture away from your cabin and see the incredible scenery on offer.

Cumbria is a county in the North-West of England and home to the National Park. Cumbria Hot Tub Holiday FAQs

If it's your first lodge break, here are some quick FAQs to make your stay a comfortable one and help you avoid any issues.

Can you park outside the lodge?

Onsite parking is a massive plus point to booking a hot tub lodge compared to a hotel! Your lodge will have at least one parking spot that's for your use during your stay. Unlike Center Parcs, you don't have to move your car once you've arrived. Just unload your goodies and head for the hot tub!

Can children use the hot tub?

As far as the lodge rules go, the majority don't have a problem with children using the hot tub but it's worth checking before you book your holiday to check there are no special rules that say kids can't use it. 99% don't have any special rules but it's worth checking.

How old do they have to be?

It's not recommended that children under 5 years use a hot tub and even kids older than that might struggle with the heat. Hot tubs do cool down fast once the lid is off and you can lower the temperature permanently during your break to something cooler than the default once you arrive at the lodge.

And a warning: don't leave children of any age in the hot tub unattended.

Can you go in the hot tub if you're pregnant?

It's not recommended that you use a hot tub if you're pregnant.

What should I pack when visiting Cumbria?

When visiting Cumbria, it is important to pack appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather, as well as any necessary items for any planned activities. Here is a list of suggested items to pack:

  • Warm, waterproof jacket
  • Comfortable walking shoes or boots
  • Warm layers such as a fleece or sweater
  • Rain gear, such as a waterproof pants or a poncho
  • Hat, gloves and scarfs are a must in colder months
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses (depending on the weather forecast)
  • Insect repellent (depending on the time of year)
  • Map and compass (if planning on hiking or exploring the outdoors)
  • Any necessary equipment for planned activities, such as fishing gear or a bike
  • Personal toiletries and any necessary medications

Is the hot tub emptied and cleaned before I arrive?

You can expect your lodge owners to empty and clean your hot tub for you prior to your arrival. This is normally done at around 10am as it takes a full day for the hot tub to reach that peak temperature when guests arrive. If in doubt, get in touch with the lodge provider or ask us here and we'll be happy to help.

What if it rains during my lodge break?

In all honesty, it's likely to rain while you're in Cumbria! I've visited the area all year round and rain comes part and parcel with a hot tub break there and should not put you off from visiting the area. Showers often pass and there are many indoor activities to take part in.
