About Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges

These stylish lakeside lodges sit in a beautifully unspoilt part of the Lake District on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake, with gorgeous views over stunning countryside and a multitude of walks right on the doorstep. The pretty market towns of Keswick, Cockermouth and Ambleside are all within easy driving distance.

You can go fishing or take a private boat on the lake if you fancy a tranquil day on the water. There are plenty of good pubs and restaurants close by - we love Overwater Hall in Cumbria (AA recognised) and the 16th century Priest Hole restaurant in Ambleside - it serves Mediterranean and English food, freshly prepared daily.

All the lodges at Bassenthwaite are superbly styled and extremely comfortable and some sit right at the water's edge with amazing views over the lake. Lakeland Lodge Plus sleeps six people and has French doors that open out onto a patio with private hot tub, perfect for warm, relaxing evenings.

Carlisle Castle is well worth a visit; built originally in 1092, it's where Mary Queen of Scots was imprisoned. As well as the many water sports that the Lakes are renowned for (head to Windermere for waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing and canoeing).

"Clean and tidy.Well cared for and everything you need!"
Ryan - Sep 2024
"Nice lodge outside space taken over by hot tub, would have been bit tight for 4 adults to sit outside!!Cant fault bedding & towels immaculately white & clean. Do think lodge could do with bit better clean found lots of dust & cobwebs but saying that had great time."
Julie - Sep 2024
"Lovely place, very quiet"
Verified Guest - Sep 2024
"loved our lodge, and thank you for the goodies. Accommodation was spacious, clean and very comfortable. Kitchen/diner was a good size and well equipped. Balcony great too. En-suite great, plus extra bathroom. A real pleasure to stay in. Thank you so much for allowing dogs. Ours had a great time."

Shaun - Aug 2024
"A great lodge and hot tub. Very well maintained and well equipped apart from a clothes horse which would have been handy to dry our swimwear after going in the hot tub."
Malcolm - Jul 2024
"Lovely lodge with hot tub ,Lovely site & location, nice & peaceful Perfect next to lake for paddle boarding"
Melanie - Jun 2024
"Fantastic loved it surrounded by natural beauty.A peaceful well looked after sight ."
Verified Guest - Jun 2024
"The addition of a hot tub was great and the accomodation was comfortable and well equipped with easy access to the lake for Kayaking. The lodge was looking a little tired in places, but this didn't detract from our comfort or our ability to really enjoy the location."
Peter - Jun 2024
"Great short break good facilities and excellent staff."
Kevin - Mar 2024
"A nice lodge equipped with everything needed, two full bathrooms with shower and a double and twin bedroom. The only downside was the size of the outside space with the hot tub taking over a good proportion of the decking. As there were only two of us it wasn't an issue but for four it would be a bit of a squeeze to sit outside comfortably."
Verified Guest - Mar 2024
"Fab holiday will recommend. ???? Beautiful surroundings and Great chilling in the hot tub. Very relaxing holiday ????. Plenty of lovely places to visit. Loved buttermere. Local pub. The sun inn for really nice food. Staff very friendly. ??."

Verified Guest - Feb 2024
"What a wonderful few days we had in Grisedale lodge. The special touches of a goody bag, bowls blankets and towels for the dog were lovely as well as the chocolates, fresh milk, fizz and beer for us. The location was stunning and the views from the hot tub were beautiful. We explored Keswick, Ambleside and the local forests during our stay and had a peaceful walk around Bassenthwaite lake. Highly recommend and we will definitely return again soon."
Danielle Burke - Feb 2024
"Lovely relaxing break - just what we wanted"
Verified Guest - Feb 2024
"It's our third visit to the lodges and our second in Rannerdale lodge.Ideal for my wife and I, with the hot tub a superb feature.Very clean and tidy, with everything you need to hand."
Mark - Jan 2024
"Beautiful location and lovely staff"
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Great size lodge in an excellent location on the park. Bedrooms are ample sized and well equipped. Lodge has everything you need for a relaxing holiday, a real home from home. Hot tub great, there were only 4 of us so there was plenty room. Might be a squeeze for 6! Christmas tree in lounge was a lovely touch too. Only slight criticism is that the lodge is clearly a few years old now and was a bit tired in places - could perhaps do with a fresh lick of paint here and there. Saying that, all the extra touches more than made up for it, dog bowls, blanket, treats, mulled wine and lagers, table set beautifully on arrival etc. would defo stay here again!!!"
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Amazing holiday. Second time we have been and loved it both times. Defo recommend"
Joanne - Jan 2024
"Had Christmas here with hubby and the dog. Lovely touch was the Christmas tree and mulled wine & box of chocolates. Lodge is very comfortable apart from the single beds in 2nd bedroom. I used one of these as hubby doesnt sleep too good sometimes! They are very small for adults, and it was ever so slightly on a slant.Would say its not suitable for four adults sharing. Other than that was very nice break."
Suzanne - Jan 2024
"The lodge is well equipped and a great size although I would say aspects are a little tired and could do with been replaced."
Beth - Dec 2023
"Nice cosy lodge, lovely deck area a pity the weather was too cold to make the most of it"
Verified Guest - Dec 2023
"A wonderful place and beautiful setting, we had such a lovely holiday"

"Fabulous family holiday. Time to reconnect. House spotless, everything you need .lovely welcome pack. We’ll recommended."
Joanne - Jul 2022
"Beautiful setting"
Gillian - Jul 2022
"What a great house, the pictures don't do it justice. We had a great time here, can't fault anything. We enjoyed being so close to the lake and it really is a very picturesque spot. Staff really helpful as we left a few items behind! We would certainly visit again. Thank you!"
Chantelle - Jul 2022
"The lodge is in an awesome location. We were literally 60 seconds away from the lake which our Siberian Husky loved. Keswick is 10 minutes away in the car & Dodds Wood is just over a mile away - well worth a visit to both. The Cumbrian Coast is only 30 minutes drive. The accommodation was fantastic - very well appointed. Great unexpected extras /treats on arrival for us & our dog - nice touch which really makes the difference. Staff all great & very helpful. All in all a great break in an excellent location. I would absolutely recommend."
Mark - Jul 2022
"Stunning location and lodge would recommend to all"
Ian - Jul 2022
"Outstanding site in lovely surroundings."
Terence - Jul 2022
"It’s so gorgeous we’d like to come here again. Beautiful setting , felt like Canada. Love that we could cool off in the lake and walk from the lodge too. It’s much more peaceful than a lot of the lakes this time of the year."
Latha - Jul 2022
"The Croft Cottage was perfect for us. It was very spacious and it had everything we needed. It was very clean. Just a short walk down to the Lake. We will definitely be booking this again."

Attractions Near Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Bassenthwaite Lakeside Lodges. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Lake District Wildlife Park - CA12 4RD
about 1 Mile
We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Ullswater Steamers - CA11 0US
about 13 Miles
This is an award winning Lake District attraction and they have been operating cruisers on Lake Ullswater for over 150 years.  There is no better way to explore the lakes than on water and you could even combine a cruise with a spectacular walk.  For great days out in this region then this attraction is highly recommended and will appeal to couples as well as families.  Corporate groups are also well catered for.
Rydal Mount & Gardens - LA22 9LU
about 17 Miles
Rydal Mount & Gardens are wonderfully situated between Lake Windermere and Rydal Water offering breathtaking scenery. The home of William Wordsworth from 1813 - 1850 the grand home is now lived in by the poets descendents but parts of the house and grounds are open to the public. Why not take a guided tour and see the rooms where many of the famous poems were written. The gardens are beautiful at all times of the year but in the summer offer a spectacular display of colour. There is also a gallery and a tearoom. Discounts are available for group bookings.
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 19 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
Mabie Farm Park - DG2 8EZ
about 30 Miles
Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
South Lakes Safari Zoo - LA12 0LU
about 33 Miles

This is an amazing Cumbria attraction well known locally as well as nationally for how close you can get to the animals.  Described as the most interactive animal park in Europe it's well worth a visit if you are staying in the area.  Open from April to end October some of the highlights are the tigers, penguins, bears, hippos and rhinos.  At 2pm during certain seasons it's feeding time so don't forget to plan your day around this so you can watch the animals enjoying their feed.  Look out for seasonal events such as Halloween Zoo Boo (free entry for kids in fancy dress) and The Magic of Christmas.

Castle Douglas - DG7 1TJ
about 34 Miles
We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis - LA6 1JH
about 37 Miles
Located in the Milnthorpe area of Cumbria we love this local attraction.  With an eclectic mix of fascinating wildlife and hands on displays this centre is educational as well as fun.  You can wander around at leisure admiring the exhibits which range from chameleons to computers. Some of the most threatened species are kept at the park as part if international breeding programmes.  Check out their website for the latest opening times and admission costs which are great value for money.  There are discounts for pre-booked parties of 12 or more.
