Sherwood Castle Holiday Forest Reviews

"best for my dog i come back"
Gheorghe - Mar 2025
"A little "dated" but it just added to the charm of a log cottage in the middle of woods. Everything clean and functional whilst being cosy."
Ros - Dec 2024
"Absolutely horrendous. One of the bedrooms was particularly dirty , we found used ear buds on the floor and under the bed. Also when we arrived they were setting up a Halloween event and was told to come back as it would be ready by then. When we got there a couple of days later we were told our children couldnt go in as it needed to be booked online something that we were never told about. When we arrived home after our stay we realised we had left a jacket on the back of one of the bedroom door. . I rang to ask about this and had to keep chasing this up . The woman on reception would say she would ring me back when she had spoke to the cleaner and never did. I had to keep ringing. I was then sent a jacket through the post which wasnt our jacket and then to be told no other jacket was found. Our jacket was left there so the only explanation was it had been taken by staff. . Reception also admitted no one had stayed in that cabin after us. . Would not recommend this place."

"Lovely clean and cosy lodge. Plenty on site to do for younger children. Grounds are well kept."
Paula - Oct 2024
"We booked this as a last minute short break with our dog. We didn't expect a hot tub so that was a fab surprise. Everything was set up and clean for us when we arrived. The area is fabulous for walks and exploring. We walked to Rufford Abbey and spent a day there. Saw deer near our Lodge. Staff were all friendly and checked the hot tub each day. Unfortunately our dog picked up harvest mites so was quite poorly as she seems to be allergic to them. but this is not the fault of the place. It's that time of year so please do keep an eye on your dogs and make sure you are aware of what these mites look like."

"A peaceful getaway. Lovely clean lodge with a lovely hot tub. I did not use site facilities as only used as a base for exploring area. Can't find fault with this lovely holiday park. I look forward to returning next year."
Verified Guest - Oct 2024
"Brilliant Cosy Lodge. Good safe outside space for dogs and children. Great log burner. Excellent cooking facilities. Perfect for a cosy weekend away!"
Sarah - Oct 2024
"The site itself is in a lovely location and surroundings. Only a 2 minute walk to the edge of Rufford Park. The lodge requires updating and redecoration as well as a thorough clean throughout. Many areas were stained/marked and boxing's falling off and the plinth to the shower was ill fitting. The sporting facilities are a great addition and are free, however the condition of the equipment that is given is poor. The tennis court is uneven. The pool requires an overhaul. The showers weren't working and the pool was freezing. The jacuzzi was like an ice bath and couldn't be used. Reception staff are intermittent and the reception is not fully manned. We waiting half an hour for someone to return to be able to ask to use the facilities. We wouldn't return to this park unless there were some modernisations."

"Grubby lodgeand bed mattress awful"
Verified Guest - Aug 2024
"Awful. Lodge was tatty front door damaged and jammed a lot. Shower not cleaned properly as previous guests toiletries left there, grouting black mold marks. Curtains at front patio doors ripped. Rubbish left on patio. Cutlery found outside on floor. Swimming pool tatty peeling paint and water cold. Reception and therefore there teeny shop close at 7pm but half the time reception was empty well before then."
Verified Guest - Aug 2024
"Good plenty to do in the area lovely walks"
Verified Guest - Aug 2024
"When we arrived on site to check in we were unsure where to go. There were no signs to say where reception was. When we arrived to our lodge we were pleasantly surprised to see a hot tub which wasn't on the listing. Once inside on first glance the lodge looked clean. When we went for a shower that evening there was a load of dead flies in the shower tray. There was a few stains on the carpet. We found it odd that when the reception closes at 7pm you can't use any of the on site facilities as they are all in the same building (including the little shop.)The swimming pool was so cold, bit too cold for my 14 month old.We had a few noise complaints from other lodges. Noise going on until at least 1:30am if not later. We called the our of hours security number and they were like what do you want me to do about it. We asked them to come out, half an hour later still no reply. We called again and no answer. Got hold of them again and she said she would send someone. They finally arrived and spoke to them for less than 2 minutes. When the guard drove off and was at the car park the noise started again and this time even louder. We called the number who text to confirm they would come and they ignored the calls. We must have called at least 10 times. My concern is what if this was an emergency situation and they have no intention of assisting. Also, the boiler lost all pressure but they didn't fix this until we checked out.We were two families in one lodge with two small children youngest was 14 months old."

"Four generations, ages ranging from 4yrs to 93 yrs, and a dog enjoyed a fun filled break, staying in Forester 4 Pet 44 and Forester 4 Pet 45. Both lodges were clean and roomy, had private hot tubs and secure gates on the decking area which kept the dog safe. We visited the animals, used the pool, tennis court, hot tubs, outdoor play areas and enjoyed walks through the woods and around the site. Friendly staff available. The only additional cost was for icecreams!"
Jennie - Jul 2024
"Reviews were mixed but the accommodation was lovely. It was a great structure, great facility for a family with dogs, comfortable and clean. Couldnt have asked for more."
Gemma - Jun 2024
"Two small sofas, not very comfortable, I could feel the springs through the mattress. The log burner could have done with a good clean."
Verified Guest - Apr 2024
"Master bedroom mattress have to be changed, it's very old and the springs not supporting the weight of your body"
Verified Guest - Apr 2024
"The only complaint we had was the mattress on the bed, it was too soft giving us both who are pensioners a sore back. This would not be an issue for most people but a little more comfort would be appreciated."
Verified Guest - Mar 2024
"The beds were too soft for my liking and some things were not cleaned properly before my stay. The lodge in whole has been very nice"
Kinga - Feb 2024
"We really enjoyed our stay, everything was clean and well kept. The kids enjoyed feeding the animals and exploring in the woods and playing in the parks. The swimming pool was a good size for private hire but sometimes the kids wanted a little longer than 30 minutes. Staff were really friendly and helpful."
Gemma - Feb 2024
"I came here a few years ago and it was lovely now it looks very tied the cabin was dirty not been cleaned properly dirty pots in the cupboard I had to clean the dishwasher before I could use it it was filthy. Bedding not the best so glad we took our own pillows. Someone with a dog must have stayed before us as there was clumps of dog hair on the floor. Which is a shame because we love where it is nice walks places to visit and nice pubs that do lovely meals. Hopefully will get better need to employ a good cleaning company."
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Cheap man's centre parks. It's OK, but hot water was hit and miss in the cabin. Cleaning could of been better, dishwasher had bits of food in from previous people who stayed there. Also the park bins were overflowing which brought the feel of rhe park down. Some nice parts were the pool which you could book per cabin so had it to yourself."
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"We have been to this park for New Years, for the past 10 years. The kids love and feel free to go off and play and explore. Its a beautiful, convenient spot with friendly staff. I just wish that there were a few more updates such as heating in the pool, somewhere to grab a coffee/cake etc. on site while kids are playing."
Laurie - Jan 2024
"Cupboards and pans full of mice droppings."
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Lodge was full of cobwebs. Floor needed sweeping."
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Very dirty. arrived to chocolate spread over the bedroom walls blood spots on the bath dead flies throughout corners of bathroom absolutely filthy ripped flooring in the living area snell of urine in the main bedroom I didn't dare look at the mattress without a sheet onOverall this complex would be wonderfully if it was cleaner properly and maintained"
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Comfortable and enjoyable accommodation, I would of liked the option for bunk beds or 2 singles in a room. Kitchen facilities were good but basic. The shop on site didn't sell basics. More sweets and fizzy drinks. Would of liked to bread milk butter etc but didn't have any. Castle staff were very relaxed and flexible about booking activities."
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Really nice for the Christmas time, and a great walk through the forest for dogs as well with a nice lodge to get back to afterwards"
LEE - Jan 2024
"Lovely chilled out few days, location is superb with little parks dotted about in the woods. Kids really enjoyed having the pool to themselves as booked 30 minute slots. Will definitely be returning ?"
Wendy - Aug 2022
"Great little holiday park in nice surroundings. Lots of outdoors paths trails and parks. Lodge was generally ok. There was signs of damp and lack of high level cleaning (cob webs) in lodges and customer areas which could be improved."
Michael - Aug 2022
"Spent a long weekend here and totally enjoyed it. Would recommend"
Emma - Jul 2022
"This is our 4th time staying here and we love it! The lodges are quite basic but in a fantastic location."
Helen - Jul 2022
"The cabin was lovely and clean the cleanest I ever stayed in the location was good will go back next year"
Sharon - Jul 2022
"Nice place to stay for holidays."
Anzella - Jul 2022
"We really enjoyed our holiday at Sherwood castle and would recommend it to any young family. The site has great facilities including the pool and tennis courts although some of the outdoor activities has taken a beaten due to COVID. The lodges themselves are well acceptable for the price and I believe are due to be revamped over the next year. The site is centrally located with numerous towns and cities all within an hour's drive. Also Sherwood pines and the Sherwood forest visitor centre are less than 10 minutes away. The best part of Sherwood Castle is the staff. They are genuine nice people who have great knowledge of the area and help a lot. I would recommend this site."
Thomas - Jul 2022
"Lovely little holiday park with lots of activities for all of the family."
