Bank Barn is a total gem in the Lake District, boasting a shiny 5 Gold Star badge from Visit England. It’s tucked away in a super peaceful spot, only a hop, skip, and a jump from the northern bits of Ullswater, and the views? Absolutely stunning.
If you’ve ever seen Ullswater, you’ll know it’s a strong contender for the prettiest lake. It’s similar to Lake Lucerne in Switzerland, snaking through the landscape for 9 miles with hills, woods, and mountains all around.

Why We Love Bank Barn
Perfect for big family trips or a bunch of mates wanting to explore the Lake District’s northern treasures. There’s loads to do, from woodland walks with cute villages and pubs along the way to sailing nearby. And if you fancy a trip to the bustling town of Penrith, it’s just 9 miles north, with some cool peaks and the Aira Force Waterfall close by.
The barn sleeps up to eight people, so it’s spot on for a big celebration, a family reunion, or just a relaxing break. You roll up the private driveway and straight away, it feels special. Inside, it’s all about luxury meets quirky charm, with a cool collection of art and bits from all over the world.
Features and Character
They’ve kept a lot of the old barn features like exposed beams and those big, barn-style doors, which gives it loads of character. The entrance hall has this fancy winding staircase that takes you up to a dining room with killer views – imagine having your dinner there! The main lounge is super cosy, perfect for chilling out with the family, especially with the log fire going. And the kitchen is like something out of a farmhouse dream, really nice for cooking up a storm.
Downstairs, there are four gorgeous bedrooms, a snug lounge for extra space, and even a laundry room.
Making the Most of the Scenery
Outside is just as lush, with massive gardens and the kind of views that’ll have you pinching yourself. It’s got terraced patios and big lawns where the kids can run wild while the grown-ups kick back, maybe with a glass of something, and take in the scenery.
