Located in the heart of Nottinghamshire, the legendary Sherwood Forest is known for its ancient woodlands, magical forest and the story of Robin Hood. Whether you’re booking a getaway for a couple, or a family holiday, its the perfect place for your next hot tub holiday.
Home to a number of walking and cycling trails and the perfect place to spot wildlife, there is no better place to get back into nature.
Sherwood Lodges that have Hot Tubs
Staying in your own hot tub cabin makes for an extra-special holiday, a place to relax, unwind and have some fun with friends, family and loved ones. My kids are obsessed with the hot tub and we try not to book anywhere that hasn’t got one these days.
Here are some of the lodges we’d recommend you try in 2024.
Planning your holiday: when’s the best time to visit?
While the warmest time to visit is the summer months, Sherwood Forest can look magical in the snow or with the low summer sun shining through its branches. This makes it an ideal location for an out-of-season getaway.
Spring – makes for a fab time to come to Sherwood as it’s getting at least a little warmer 8°C to 16°C (46°F to 61°F) and everything is starting to burst back into life, with some fantastic blooms and colours starting to emerge. Wild flowes are in bloom and its a real treat if you’re a bird watcher as they show off and try to find a mate!
Summer – The most popular time to book a hot tub getaway in Sherwood, the temperatures can range from 12°C to 22°C (54°F to 72°F) and the forest is in full bloom, its trees a sea of green and the landscape looks stunning. Accommodation will be more pricey at this time and you’ll need to book attractions in advance too.
Autumn – Although there’s a chill in the air, this is still a great time to get booked up for a lodge break in Sherwood because although it’s colder 6°C to 16°C (43°F to 61°F) you can bag some cheap bargain breaks and also avoid the mad summer rush. It’s a perfect time for hiking and exploring the forest trails in peace.
Winter – Although the average temperatures plummet to 1°C to 8°C (34°F to 46°F) Sherwood forest has a really magical charm you won’t want to miss at this time of year! There’s nothing quite as beautiful as seeing the forest covered in a blanket of frost. Wrap up, enjoy the winter wonderland and jump in your hot tub!

With plenty of walking trails all around Sherwood Forest, you will find no shortage of dog walks for you and your pooch. Then, why not head to the Royal Oak Pub or The Rose Cottage for a drink and a bite to eat.
For a less physical pet-friendly day out take a trip to Bolsover Castle where dogs on leads are welcome on the grounds, or Newark Castle and Gardens.

Sherwood Forest Hot Tub Break FAQs
This is my first hot tub break, what should I expect?
Hot tub breaks offer another way to relax and unwind and connect with loved ones during your holiday. The hot tub will be outdoors in 99% of the cases and you’ll have to make the ‘chilly walk of shame’ to get in and out. Hot tubs normally have several spa modes with jets which will massage you while you sit in them. Generally speaking, hot tubs will have enough room for 4 people at a time.
What do I need to do with the hot tub?
The golden rule with a hot tub break in any forest or woodland area is to keep the cover on when not in use. Apart from keeping the tub at the perfect temperature, it also ensures no leaves, seeds or bugs will land in the water. They’re easy to get out or will be taken care of by the filter though so don’t worry if you forget!
Is Sherwood Forest mainly for Walkers?
No. There is so much to do in the Sherwood Forest area from cycling to segways and off-road driving experiences. No matter what your interests are, you are sure to find something that piques your interest at Sherwood Forest.
Is there any accommodation in Sherwood Forest itself?
Haywood Oaks Golf and Country Club offers lodges with hot tubs that sleep 2 and are situated within the Sherwood Forest Area and definitely worth investigating when looking at accommodation options for your upcoming trip.
What are the closest cities to Sherwood Forest?
Nottingham City and Sheffield City are the closest cities to Sherwood Forest, around an hour’s drive to each. Both of these cities offer a huge range of attractions and make a great day trip.
Are the hot tubs private?
Yes! Just about every outdoor hot tub has an enclosure around it, no matter which properties you book. You will be able to make it back to your lodge without anyone seeing you. I’ve never stayed in a lodge or holiday park where the hot tub could be seen by anyone.
What do I need to pack for a hot tub break?
The only real difference to packing for a regular lodge break is you’ll need to pack your swimming costumes. For some reason, I always seem to forget mine and it’s a pain having to wait until I can get to the shops and buy a new one.
Other than that, some people like to take flip-flops to make the journey to and from the tub a bit comfier! Robes and towels are normally provided but check before you book!
