A peace treaty was signed between the British and the French in the bar area after the French unsuccessfully tried to invade the west coast of Wales – the last invasion attempt on Britain – so grab a drink in the bar and enjoy sitting in a piece of history!

Wonderful Wildlife

Whilst Fishguard is beautiful at any time of the year, if you’re visiting in Autumn especially, you’ll want to pay the Gwaun Valley a visit. Surrounded by trees, the pathways are golden and glowing by the colder months, but just as beautiful with their freshness in the Summer! Formed by the fast waters from melting glaciers, it’s even listed as one of the most important meltwater channels in Britain from the last Ice Age.

But if you’d rather walk-through history during your stay, Fishguard Fort is a great opportunity. Built during the eighteenth century to help fight against the attempted French invasion in 1797, visitors are now able to see the ammunition storehouse, four restored cannons, and of course the beautiful Harbour views. Located on the Pembrokeshire Coast Path National Trail, it makes a great point for any weary walkers looking for a quick break.

If walking isn’t your cup of tea, the Ocean Lab will certainly give you a taste of Welsh wildlife. Run by Sea Trust Wales, they aim to help visitors get to know and care for local marine wildlife by taking them on a guided tour, led by Sea Trust marine biologists. Jude’s Café is also on-site for any hungry explorers, and there’s even a soft play area for the little ones.

Eclectic Events

For any music fans, it might be worth timing your trip with Fishguard Folk Festival. Taking place over the late May Bank Holiday, it’s almost entirely free (with the exception of headline concerts) and features everything from concerts to workshops! Previous headliners included artists such as BBC Young Folk Awards finalist Hannah James, and former supporting artist for The Shires, FolkLaw.

If there’s something fishy in the air during your stay at Fishguard, then you might have happened to visit during Pembrokeshire Fish Week! It began in 1999 and since then has over 250 events and activities that draw 31,000 guests to the County – so why not be part of the thousands that travel thereby making the forty-minute car journey?.
