Tenby Harbour has a quintessential maritime feel, as it is thriving with life and has a real community vibe. A boat trip from here to Caldey Island is highly recommended. This island is owned by Cistercian monks and an insight into their life can be discovered at the Abbey. The boat leads straight to Priory Beach, which has a tranquil atmosphere that matches the island’s peaceful ambience.
Tenby Castle is a fantastically well-preserved historical landmark and is situated just out to sea so is accessible by foot at low tide. Snap a picture of it from the coast and explore inside for a close-up look at the stone architecture. The view of Tenby from the castle windows is the perfect photo opportunity.
Enjoy a beach day of swimming and building sandcastles at any of the three main beaches. Harbour Beach offers a great view of the marina, whilst Castle Beach is framed by the magnificent castle and is a Blue Flag winner. South Beach stretches further down Tenby’s coast, meaning there is plenty of room to grab the perfect spot for the day. Walk along the Pembrokeshire Coast Path for stunning views of these beaches along 4.5 miles of a manageable coastal route.
Experience old-world Tenby at the Tudor Merchant’s House, a property with rooms showcasing 15th Century furniture and artefacts. This stone establishment is nestled amongst brightly painted rustic buildings down one of Tenby’s cobbled streets. The Tenby Museum and Art Gallery chronicles iconic moments in Tenby’s history, such as the story of when Henry Tudor had to escape from the town. This location is also the oldest independent museum in Wales.
There are lots of activities available both in town and easily accessible by car for children of all ages. A ten-minute walk to The Overhang is a rock-climbing facility, available for beginners or for those who have tried it before. This business also offers rock-climbing on the coastal cliff walls for those feeling daring enough.
For animal lovers, Manor Wildlife Park offers an incredible array of hands-on experiences with their resident creatures. Children can feed the giant bunnies, walk with the black nose sheep and meet the red pandas. For an all-day immersive experience, there is an opportunity to be a junior keeper. Reptile Experience is another memorable outing for animal enthusiasts, where children can handle a range of reptiles including frogs, tortoises, lizards and snakes.
Encounter a prehistoric world at The Dinosaur Park, where life-size models are situated throughout the site. There are lots of activities on site, including go karting and crazy golf. There is also an indoor play area for younger children.
A 20-minute drive away is Oakwood Theme Park, which is a family friendly site with rides and attractions for children of all ages. There are tamer rides for toddlers, as well as more exhilarating rides for thrill seekers. Crazy golf and arcade games are also available as a break from the rollercoasters.
The range of cafés and restaurants in town will mean that visitors are guaranteed to have somewhere new to try out each day. For a light lunch, visit The Fuchsia Caffe, which is also dog friendly. They serve locally roasted coffee along with their meals, which can be enjoyed in their floral seating area. The Stowaway Coffee Co embraces its nautical location under the stone arches by the coast to create a rustic feel. For a meal with a coastal view, the Seaview Restaurant is perfect. The windows along the wall frame the picture-perfect seascape, which excellently complements a meal of fish and chips.
An evening meal of local seafood can be enjoyed at the nautical-themed gastropub the Hope & Anchor. Make the most of the sea view at South Beach Bar & Grill, situated right on the beach. There is a great selection of grill meals available here. Three Mariners Pub has a beautiful outdoor seating area strung with fairy lights, perfect for an evening drink. The Cove is a charming venue with a huge variety of cocktails and locally brewed beer and often live music is held here.
International cuisine can be tried out at Sandbar and Cwlbox, which serves food from all over the world. Mykonos is a Greek restaurant which celebrates its home country in its Greek-themed interior. The food is imported from Cyprus, adding to the authentic Greek feeling. Travel to India via The Bay of Bengal, which serves an incredible menu of traditional Indian dishes.
