Cornwall has its pick of gorgeous beaches – Porthcurno Bay has been named as one of the most beautiful bays in the world and lies about three miles east of Land’s End on the southwest coast. The white sands of Kynance Beach are overlooked by a backdrop of dramatic rocks – with its deep turquoise waters, you could be in any country in the world! Daymer Bay is a swathe of golden sands with amazing views across the estuary – even Princes William and Harry have discovered this place as a holiday spot!
You can fit a lot into a weekend break in Cornwall
There are spectacular walks with stunning scenery – almost half of the 630-mile South West Coast Path National Trail is in Cornwall. It’s been voted the nation’s favourite coast path and boasts the most southern (Lizard Point) and most western (Land’s End) points of England. You could walk for days, taking in Poldark country and Falmouth’s fortifications – Pendennis, St Anthony’s Head, St Mawes Castle and St Just.
On a fine evening, The Minack Theatre is a wonderful location for a really special date night. It’s a beautiful outdoor venue that literally clings to the edge of a cliff, high above the Atlantic! The architecture is fabulous with curves and columns designed and created by Rowena Cade in the 1930s. Today the theatre stages drama, comedy, musicals and even opera – the views are astounding and there’s also a beautiful tropical garden, perfect for a quiet night-time stroll after the performance.
From beach restaurants to Michelin-starred restaurants, formal to beachwear casual, good food and eating out is a big part of Cornish culture. The Smugglers’ Den Inn in Newquay is full to the brim of Grade II listed 16th-century charm with a freshly prepared daily menu and Sandbar Praa Sands has a beachside setting with amazing sea views. It’s also an ideal location for wedding receptions and private parties.
Whatever the occasion, you’ll find plenty to do, lovely restaurants and perfect beaches in Cornwall. It’s a superb place to enjoy a romantic break away and discover more of England.
