Herons Lake Retreat Reviews

"The location is amazing and the view of the lake is brilliant. The staff were so helpful and really polite. The only downside was the basic facilities in our log cabin and the tiredness of the cabin. This hasnt been the same in other cabins onsite. Hoping the woodpecker lodge is refurbed as its a lovely site and place to visit."
Claire - Apr 2024
"Really beautiful grounds, cabin was the perfect size for the two of us. Enjoyed being surrounded by nature and being fairly secluded it was nice to hear the birds singing. Staff were so friendly, made check in and check out easy and would do spot checks every day to make sure everything was all ok during the stay. You are a bit of a walk from the main village and you will need to take the forest route as there is no pavements on the roads. But this was ideal for us as we could make the most of doing nothing! Cant wait to stay again"
Verified Guest - Feb 2024
"Its a beautiful place,my only problem was theres no restaurant on site other than that I will visit again ????"
Sara - Nov 2023
"A lovely holiday beautiful setting. Just wished the decking was a little bigger but it didnt spoil the stay there"
Laura - Jul 2020
"Had a couple of nights in the Falcon Woodside Lodge with the other half and my son, and it was wonderful. Everything was absolutely spot on. The lodge was spacious, the kitchen had everything that you need and more. The Falcon Woodside Lodge has a small patch of grass just outside it which was perfect for my son. The hot tub? Brilliant. The surroundings? Nice, quiet area with some breathtaking views. Would 100% go again."
Ali - Jul 2020
"Overall was an excellent stay, thank you."
Katie - Jul 2020
"Fabulous but needed a bigger seating area in living area"
Marie - Jul 2020
"Stayed in the Falcon Woodside lodge, it was perfect, great size for a party of 3. Lodge was easy to find and drive to, it was fully equipped with kitchen utensils, fridge, freezer, oven, microwave, tv, speakers, everything you could think of! The land has gorgeous lakes, picturesque views! The beds are soooo comfy, the hot tub was secluded and perfect of an evening. Overall my stay was perfect couldnt fault the place, Will 100% be returning!"
Lauren - Mar 2020
"Overall we had the best 4 days away for Dewis 30th birthday. It was nice and relaxing and it was the perfect location."
Stacey - Mar 2020
"Definitely recommend staying here, worth the 5 hour drive, wish there was more to do in the area. Pictures dont do this place justice. Was a great stay although check in felt rushed, no information on local area and wasnt even told where our lodge was but I knew from looking online. 8/10"
Chloe - Mar 2020
"Really positive experience. Good folder with all relevant info in the cabin. Loved the hot tub. Beds comfy and nice and modern. The only down side is half of the hot tub lights werent working which was disappointing. Other than that the stay was brilliant!"
Sian - Mar 2020
"We stayed 2 nights and have to say they were well needed. Dont think we could have picked a better place. Beautiful surroundings and very peaceful, the room was nice and warm when we entered and the staff were very nice. The hot tub was amazing and clean and no one could see us due to where it was located! It was the quail lodge number 24 i believe. Only 2 things i could pick out wrong was that there was abit of mold in the shower and it was dusty under the bed and sofa but it didnt spoil our time there!"
Simon - Mar 2020
"Feel totally relaxed after our few days away. I would definitely recommend and look forward to coming again!"
John - Feb 2020
"Moorhen cottage is lovely , overlooking the lake , well equipped cottage . Only fault was the double bed downstairs.could do with a new mattress. Would definitely stay again ."
Marie - Feb 2020
"Thorough cleaning of the property during change over is needed."
Holly - Feb 2020
"Absolutely loved it and i will definately be back.

Thankyou "
Claire - Feb 2020
"Lovley lodge and hot tub highly recommended"
Kathy - Feb 2020
"Loved this place. The log cabin was over 2 floors. Very cosy. I slept so well here. The late night usage of the hot tub was wonderful. It can be used at any time of day or night but we chose nighttime.
The log cabin itself was in need of some TLC. Great kitchen, Good bathroom and shower etc. Just the windows were a little rotten and the wardrobe upstairs was on its hinges. Definitely needs better bedroom furniture although the bed was just amazing !
The location is very tranquil. Being a retreat you need to do nothing and enjoy your quiet time although I was a little disappointed with the lack of walks you could do.
The main road out of the retreat is extremely hazardous by day and not worth the risk at night time. People drive so fast down this road.
The lake with resident ducks. Geese and swans was just beautiful. We bought some feed from reception which made this more special.
Overall wonderful. I will be returning.
Pros- tranquil. Hot tub. Nature. Great staff. Cosy. Warm. Recharged

Cons - lack of walks. Check in time 4pm is too late and check out of 10am is to early. You need 2 nights to be able to enjoy that time.
The road outside
Bedroom furniture."
Paul - Jan 2020
"Lovely lodge site great staff 100% reccomend be back soon"
James - Jan 2020
"Great cabin. The cabins are laid out very well to ensure privacy. Even though there are other cabins close by you don't feel overlooked. Loved the parking for each cabin. Made loading and unloading the car easy.
The twin bedroom was very small and we had planned to put our travel cot in there however it wouldn't fit. But we had plenty of room at the end of our bed in the main bedroom
Would love to return"
Sarah - Jan 2020
"Excellent - will definitely return"
Jill - Jan 2020

Susannah - Dec 2019
"This was our first stay at Herons Lake Retreat, but Im sure it wont be our last."
Claire - Nov 2019
"I cannot praise Herons Lodge Retreat enough and we had an amazing stay in Woodpecker lodge for my girlfriends birthday. I called up a few days before and asked to have some balloons and banners placed in the lodge and also a bottle of prosecco and rose petals on the bed. Non of this was too much trouble and prices were excellent. Jo was super helpful and most welcoming on arrival and went through everything with me from collecting the keys to suggestions for groceries and local restaurants. One in particular was the Piccadilly pub up in the village and Jo advised us to mention our lodge to them upon booking for a free taxi service. This was a wonderful thing and made the evening extra special.

Upon walking down to the lodge, it looked and felt so magical with all the fairy lights and the sound of the lake and wildlife. The lodge itself in side and out was beautiful, very modern and warm and cosy with everything you need for a perfect stay. To my girlfriends delight we had a jacuzzi bath tub which she had to test out several times! The bedroom was beautiful and I LOVED the window opening onto the water with the ducks visiting us in the morning to feed (food available at the office). I even got to see a kingfisher, it landed on the BBQ! The bed was amazingly comfy as was the sofa in the living room which sent us both to sleep whilst watching tv in the evening. The hot tub outside was just wonderful, especially with the weather not being the best and quite cold (it was november!), stepping in was incredible and I feel goosebumps thinking about it.

The location is superb, only 10 mins to a big tesco, aldi etc. Close by to Chester and half hour to nearest coast.

The only downside was the fact that I didn't want to leave. I hope we can come back soon, loved every second and missed it the second we left."
James - Nov 2019
