Out and about

The long sandy beach makes this the perfect location for those wanting a seaside break. There are a range of eateries dotted along the coast, with something for all tastes and occasions where guests can enjoy the views of the sea during their meal.

The town’s traditional Victorian charm is evident from the beautiful buildings populating the centre and via the promenade. Inquisitive guests should visit the award-winning Time & Tide Museum, chronicling the town’s maritime history. The Tolhouse Museums features the darker side of Great Yarmouth’s history, this being a 19th Century prison. On the banks of the River Yare sits the National Trust’s Elizabethan House Museum, containing gorgeous 16th Century décor.

Along the coast, walk along The Golden Mile, the lively hub of Great Yarmouth’s coastal attractions. Seaside amusements await at Wellington Pier, overlooking the main beach. The area is also home to the UK’s only indoor adventure crazy golf at Hollywood Indoor Adventure Golf. Situated inside an iconic 1908 building, visitors can see memorabilia from the theatrical history of the town.

For families

Along the coast there are numerous places for the children’s entertainment, including Pirates Cove Adventure Golf. Kids will love this pirate-themed course, the site will really transport them to the high seas. Nearby is Joyland Children’s Fun Park, a range of fun seaside activities including mini rides and bumper cars. Jurassic Journey is another great place for kids, home to a fantastic collection of dinosaur models.

A 15-minute drive from town is Fritton Owl Sanctuary, home to unwanted and injured owls and open to the public to visit.

Take a 20-minute drive to Fairhaven Woodland & Water Garden, where there are over 130 acres of woodland to discover where guests will find abundant flora and fauna. There’s also a family-friendly café by the water garden, where lunch is paired with gorgeous woodland views.

Days out

Walkers will find plenty of routes to travel in the unspoiled Norfolk countryside, all ranging in length and difficulty to accommodate for all. A walk to Mautby immerses travellers in nature, allowing them to enjoy the unforgettable mountain and riverside views. Or, walk from town to Caister-On-Sea, a 6 mile walk where a range of eateries await at the destination. North of Great Yarmouth is a route from Sea Palling to Horsey Gap, a sheltered walk perfect for those wanting to spot resident birdlife and even reptiles.
