Waveney River Centre Reviews

"The living accommodation is good. We would have preferred a double rather than a queen bed as it was very tight either side of the bed. The kitchen lacked some equipment e.g. potato peeler, wooden spoons, dishes for cooking with and lids that fitted the saucepans."
Wendy - Mar 2025
"The lodge was in an unacceptable state, with multiple cleanliness, safety, and maintenance issues, including: Mould and Cleanliness Issues: The lodge had visible mould, including inside the wardrobe. The general cleanliness was poor, with dirty rusty blinds and a stained, grubby sofa. Hot Tub Unusable: The hot tub was full of dirt and slime, making it impossible to use. Additionally, the jets were broken, rendering it completely non-functional. Broken Fixtures and Safety Concerns: The safety railings on the outside decking were not secure, posing a serious hazard. The shower door was broken and difficult to use. The sink tap in the ensuite was broken. A window and door had blown double glazing, leading to condensation and a poor view. Wallpaper in the bedroom was peeling, giving the room an unkempt appearance. Shelves in all bedrooms were not secure, making them unsafe to use."

"We visited Waveney River Centre in the February half term 2025. We knew that coming in the winter months would restrict how much we could enjoy the site however we were lucky the weather was dry. The foot ferry wasn't operational apart from one occasion where reception kindly arranged for us to get to the nearby marshes. The pool was great, we even had it to ourselves one time! The restaurant was great too. The downside is that the lodge had seen better days and the cleanliness of the lodge wasn't great- sticky dining tables, i needed to rewash all crockery (variety of crockery was also poor). The bedrooms were tiny, especially the twin rooms which felt chaotic when the smallest of storage was offered. Be prepared to travel far as there isn't really anything nearby, the nearest supermarket was 30 mins away! I think the on site shop should be better to take this in to consideration. Check in hours are between 4-5 and i think this is pretty tight. Due to traffic on our journey we didn't arrive in this hour so I called the site and they arranged to open the lodge and leave the key."
Emma - Feb 2025
"Great lodge. No free WiFi. Could pay for WiFi on one device, but was expensive. On river bank to high risk of flooding. No electric kettle, but gas kettle that whistles provided. Single track roads to approach."
Verified Guest - Feb 2025
"Our Waveney River Centre review: Pristine level of cleanliness and everything was as stated on the website. Hot tub was maintained throughout the stay.So much bigger than in the photos!"
Dale - Jan 2025
"Little bit tatty. Not cleaned to a very high standard. Lots of dust & cobwebs"
Dawn - Jan 2025
"The accomadation was exactly as described and was clean and spacious.Quite and relaxing surroundings."
Warner - Jan 2025
"The lodge itself is spacious and is well stocked (plenty of kitchen utensils, tea bags and coffee sachets, mini washing up liquid bottle etc. to see you through the first day) however it is showing signs of wear and tear. There was a decorated Christmas tree in the lodge, which was lovely and festive. The hot tub is a good size, however it is in a very bad position on the plot - you have to access it out the main door rather than from a patio door, and it is situated in plain view of anyone walking past the lodge. It's placed in front of the driveway for cars. There are no privacy screens, and there are no outdoor lights so to use it past 4pm (as it's dark at that time in December) I had to switch on my car lights to even be able to see to take off the cover. We did not use the hot tub as often as we might have done if it had been more accessible, had outdoor lights and/or was less overlooked. Additionally, the lodge plot was not well cared for - it was overgrown, meaning I had to climb through brambles (in the dark in the evening) to get to the hot tub to take the lid off and put it back on."
Verified Guest - Dec 2024
"Very big clean and fully equipped for our family Christmas break. The bedrooms were a dream as3 bedrooms had en suite The jacuzzi was very hot and perfect for the cold weather"
Sandra - Dec 2024
"Not luxury at all, worn, dated , tired , a big shame. Hot tub very old, no privacy . Hooks hanging off doors, cobwebs every where , windows not clean"
Daniel - Dec 2024
"We absolutely LOVE Waveney River Centre, this is our third visit and no doubt wont be the last! Waveney River Centre has a wonderful relaxed and quiet atmosphere surrounded by nature. The loathes are lovely in size and well maintained, the site has a nice restaurant/pub, and lovely indoor swimming pool. The only downside is that the convenience store is now quite small, so Id advise stocking up on supplies before arriving, but saying that Beccles is only 20mins drive away and has supermarkets and wonderful cafes (highly recommend Twyfords Cafe)."
Ashley - Nov 2024
"Looked clean but we had to move a bed for a travel cot and it was very dirty with food waste."
Shane - Oct 2024
"Lodge was nice. Very close to lodge next door and hot tub overlooked but no one in that lodge so not a problem. Lodge was basic but good."
Lou - Oct 2024
"Our kids (5 & 7) both loved the location, being next to a nature reserve with ducks and swans meant there was always something to see from the lodge windows. The onsite playground was great for short entertainment too."
Kevin - Oct 2024
"Swimming pool showers were a little tired looking and hot tub didnt work. But other than this a really lovely stag"
Bethany - Oct 2024
"Settees were a bit saggy and the fridge had no shelves in the door, but everything else was lovely"
Christina - Oct 2024
"Great week at the Wavney River Centre. Quiet, family friendly and dogs welcome . The pool is small but we swam a few times. Booking a lodge with a hot tub was also enjoyed by all. Pub does good typical pub food and the little shop sells the basics. Helpful friendly staff. Slightly irked that you have to pay extra for unreliable wifi hence only a good rating for facilities. The road in and out is narrow and you may need to reverse if you meet a tractor but once out we enjoyed Beccles, Lowestoft and Gaulston beach."
Verified Guest - Aug 2024
"We spent a week at Burgh Staith 5 bed accommodation and had a fabulous weekThe Hot Tub was a definite bonus as my 3 younger grandchildren spent most of the time in it when at property. The property was clean with plenty of en-suites / bathrooms and very spacious which was ideal as there were 10 of us.The kitchen was well equipped with plenty of pots/pans, cutlery and crockery etc. I would certainly return if we wanted to stay again in Suffolk/Norfolk"
Amanda - Aug 2024
"We stated in Broadview Lodge and it was lovely. It was well laid out and comfortable for the 3 of us and our dog.The hot tub is well screened and feels private and the deck offered nice views out to the countryside"
Robert - Jul 2024
"everything was spotless"
Verified Guest - Jul 2024
"Curtains and carpets full of dead bugs. They should get rid of carpets. The rest was very nice."
Robert - Jul 2024
"You should know that in order to receive wifi you need to pay, and the swimming pool is also payable and time slotted. The ferry (probably due to the time of the year) had to be booked at reception"
CHRISTINE - Jul 2024
"Great weekend away to relax and unwind."
Hayley - Jun 2024
"Peaceful but very remote. We were fortunate with good weather otherwise it would have been disappointing. Only walks are along the two single track roads leading to the centre and footpaths through fields, not good in the rain."
Roger - Jun 2024

"Really friendly check-in, after a call to say our lodge was available early - which was a bonus. The location is quite remote and you need a car to get around."
CAROLINE - Aug 2022
"Beautiful location and views, Our lodge with hot tub was very lovely and clean x We had the perfect week Thank you we will be coming back soon x"
Victora - Jun 2022
"Lodge was I the perfect location and lovely, great views and ideal for us as couples and our dog. The kitchen was well equipped and loved having home comfort like the dishwasher. Only a couple of things not 100% the recliner sofa was broken in recliner position (but not a real problem) The bed in the bedroom with the un suite was to low and big for the room, the post at the end, kept walking into and covered on bruises. A divan would work better. The swimming pool was small but warm and as booking a spot was perfect for a quick dip and not busy. The staff from reception to bar staff all very helpful and friendly. The restaurant had a limited menu but food was good and went to the extra help to accommodate our dietary needs. We hired a boat for 4 hours and this is a must the mist wonderful day and a great experience. Again could not fault it. All in all had the most relaxing, chilling four days. Just what we all needed."
Tracey - Jun 2022
"We had the best relaxing holiday in barn owl lodge and we will definitely return again From the ladies that lunch xx"
Sue - Jun 2022
"Lovely lodge with great views across the marse land.Had cows close by.Saw deers and different birds.Spacious lodge especially having a big doggie Nice and clean .Everything worked and was good having freezer separate to fridge so lots of space .Need to drive as there’s nothing much close by eg supermarkets ,restaurants.Nice walks over the marse land. You get a little boat that takes you across the water to get to the marsh land."
Karen - Jun 2022
"We have a fabulous time, this is the second time we have stayed at Waveney (this time as a family) the lodge was clean and well equipped, the hot tub was a hit with the whole family, we also used the pool this time which was also clean and staff friendly. The only downside this stay was the pub wasn’t serving food we where looking forward to walking down for a evening meal and with having children this time I was disappointed with the play area"

Attractions Near Waveney River Centre

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Waveney River Centre. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park - NR32 4TZ
about 3 Miles
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park is an amazing 50 acres area of stunning coastal parkland and is packed with family friendly rides and attractions. This park is an excellent choice for families with children of varied ages as there are a number of small rides for the little ones as well as some adrenaline boosting white knuckle rides for teenagers. As well as rides the site hosts some fantastic shows including the ever popular Sea Lion and Parrot encounters. At Halloween, Christmas and Easter other themed shows can also be enjoyed.  The site also has a good range of places to eat and drink whether you are looking to spend a leisurely hour relaxing with a meal or just grab a quick snack.
Africa Alive - NR33 7TF
about 4 Miles
Africa Alive is one of Suffolk's largest attractions and one of the most popular in the whole of the UK.  The Africa themed park is very unique and gives visitors the chance to see some amazing creatures in a habitat which is as close to nature as possible. The park can be explored by car and on foot and Hyenas and Giraffes are just some of the animals you will encounter as you make your way around the park. Watch out for the lightning fast Cheetahs and keep your eyes peeled to spot the more reclusive creatures. During a day at Africa Alive there will be plenty of shows and educational talks taking place and if the weather turns then the indoor Adventure Play Ground comes in very handy. The site also has a well stocked Gift Shop and a Discovery Centre.
Bewilderwood - NR12 8JW
about 17 Miles
Bewilderwood is a fun day out for the whole family located in the Wroxham area of Norfolk.  This imaginative adventure park has won awards and we think kids especially will love the characters and the magical tree houses. You can even book your ticket online and beat the queues by visiting their website where you can also view video clips of the park. This place is also the setting for the book 'A Boggle at BeWILDerwood', by local children's author Tom Blofeld.  Parents are not left out either as you're encouraged to take part and play alongside your children.
Banham Zoo - NR16 2HE
about 26 Miles
This award winning wildlife attraction has much to offer both families and couples looking for a fun and educational day out.  You can discover a whole wild world of animals with over 1000 different animals from around the world. You will probably want to try and spend the whole day here so you don's miss out on anything.  Highlights include the amazing animals presentation, the birds of prey display and the feeding talks, all of which take place at set times of the day.  This attraction is fantastic value for money and highly recommended.  Their latest event is the Snow Leopard Club Naming Auction and there has recently been a baby giraffe born at the zoo.
Dinosaur Adventure Park - NR9 5JW
about 27 Miles
This fun family day out has been well planned and we think is certainly worth a visit.  New for 2010 is the PrimEvil at Dinosaur Adventure.  Other fun activities include the Dinosaur Trail, Arachnophobia, the Raptor Races and the adventure play area.  The secret animal garden is also popular.  You can play a role in wildlife conservation and sponsor an animal if you wish.  At the moment if you sign up for their newsletter there is a chance to win a family ticket.
Suffolk Owl Sanctuary - IP28 6HX
about 30 Miles
This amazing owl sanctuary located in the Stowmarket area of Suffolk should be high on your list of places to visit in the area.  The attraction is also a registered charity and carries out important work in the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region.  The sanctuary also raises awareness of owl conservation throughout the UK.  Between April and the end of September there are two superb flying displays each day so you should try and make your visit coincide with one of these displays if you can.
Melsop Farm Park - NR20 3DT
about 31 Miles
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals.  Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas.  On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks.  Hot food is available over lunch times.
Sheringham Park - NR26 8TL
about 36 Miles
The National Trust Sheringham Park in Norfolk was designed by Humphry Repton and the book of original designs can still be seen. The park has many attractions including a viewing tower and a gazebo with amazing coastal views, wildlife trails which young children will love and an exhibition barn where visitors can learn the history of the park.
