The Scottish Borders is so popular because of the sheer range of activities – historic houses and castles, exciting festivals, arts and crafts, delicious local produce and miles of rolling hills, beautiful valleys, and the Berwickshire coastline. Several local attractions have children’s programmes and events to ensure guests of all ages are entertained during their stay. Guests can make use of their complimentary grounds pass which allows them access to several trails around the estate. One particular trail will lead you directly to Thirlestane Castle which is open for daily guided tours through the summer, and private castle tours can be organised year-round.

Beyond the estate, guests can discover world-class mountain biking at Glentress, just 25 miles from the lodges. It has a fantastic range of challenging trails for the experts, as well as easier routes for beginners. Glentress also has a brilliant Go Ape high ropes course including a 325-metre long zip wire across the valley. Lauder has a 10 minute trail walk from the lodges and has a selection of delicious eateries, butcher, bakery, delis, a golf course and a gallery to discover. Guests can venture further afield and explore other local market towns such as Melrose and Kelso which are 12 and 17 miles away respectively. Furthermore, Scotland’s capital, the city of Edinburgh, is only 28 miles away – less than an hour’s drive.

For those who prefer water sports, you can head to St Mary’s Loch which is perfect for wild swimming and paddle boards. The lodges are also within an hour’s drive of the spectacular east coast, which has incredible sandy beaches and cliff walks. Guests can try their hand at surfing at Coldingham Bay which is well known for its high waves and brilliant surf school. There’s something for the whole family, let your adventures begin.

"Our Thirlestane Woodland Lodges review: Honestly, the most beautiful lodge we have ever stayed in. So fresh, clean and gorgeous. It really did have everything you could possibly need, even down to the small details like coffee/tea in the cannisters and little packets of biscuits, milk in the fridge for your arrival, such thoughtful details. Hot tub was amazing too. Hands down the best pillows and duvet I've ever had anywhere! Plenty of towels and washing/drying facilities. I can't wait to book and come back to these stunning lodges."

"We had the MOST wonderful stay at Thirlestane lodges, we went for the break between Christmas and new year. On arrival a bottle of Prosecco and chocolates lay on the beautifully layout kitchen island, the features are absolutely stunning and the fire kept us warm when the snow came!We were 45 minutes away Edinburgh and had a wonderful day out there. The weather was touch and go and our little pug wouldnt walk, but we are going to come back in the summer so we can enjoy it all! The hot tub was a treat!! We spent the last evening watching the immense sky show we had of all the stars, it was unreal! I cannot fault this lodge at all, everything to the detail, the amenities, the comfy bed, the hot showers, the beautifully presented rooms, the gorgeous surroundings, I already cant wait to come back! We plan to come back for our 1st wedding anniversary and Im so excited!!! Thank you for a wonderful stay!"

"A fabulous lodge very clean with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. Very well maintained and comfortable. Nice little welcome pack on arrival with tea coffee milk and biscuits. The lighting on the road wasnt on so bring your torch if going out when its dark! Plenty outside decking space and furniture to sit out and the hot tub was great and private."

Attractions Near Thirlestane Woodland Lodges

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Thirlestane Woodland Lodges. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Kailzie Gardens - EH45 9HT
about 18 Miles
Kailzie Gardens are another popular attraction and are an excellent place for a day out in the summertime. The gardens are a peaceful and colourful place to spend the day with a wide variety of flora and fauna on display. Other attractions here include live viewing of the Tweed Valley ospreys, a Gift Shop where children can pick up a souvenir, a Tearoom serving tasty local produce and home cooked meals, a Children's Corner, Putting Green, and a gorgeous private 2½ mile stretch on the River Tweed where visitors can enjoy Fly Fishing and a Picnic Area.
Conundrum Farm - EX5 3AQ
about 25 Miles
With easy access from the A1 this lovely farm just north of Berwick makes a fantastic family day out.  Follow the farm trail and meet an array of friendly farm animals.  Kids will also enjoy the indoor and outdoor play areas, pet barn and tractor circuit.  The admission fee is excellent value and you will get a free bag of food for the animals and a bag of fish food for the trouts in the fish pond. When you want a bite to eat, the licensed restaurant is the place to go with quality home cooking and a charming location in some of the converted farm buildings.
Smoo Cave - IV27 4QB
about 25 Miles
Smoo Cave is a popular attraction which can be enjoyed all year round but visitors should wrap up warm during the winter months.  This spectacular limestone sea-cave in Sutherland is the largest in Britain and is simply spectacular. The cave was formed by a burn that runs down into the rear chamber, as well as erosion caused by the sea. Guests can take the path from the car park which runs right through the cave. Boat trips are available in the summer months and are an excellent way to fully appreciate the cave from all angles.
Kielder Water Bird of Prey Centre - NE48 1BT
about 37 Miles
Housing the most fascinating collection of Birds of Prey in the North East this centre is definitely worth a visit if you are staying in the Kielder Water area. Located in Falstone it's easy to get to and makes a great day out for both families and couples.  As well as seeing the amazing birds you can learn all about the captive breeding programme and the excellent work being done there.  Some of the highlights of the day might include watching a Falcon stoop down from the skies at over 100mph and admiring the grace of the Eagles, Kites and Hawks.
