Messingham Grange Reviews

"Great time would definitely return one day. Lovely lodge and the hotub was great addition"
Tony - Mar 2025
"Could do with coat hooks"

"Not the best"
Verified Guest - Feb 2025
"As mentioned previously it would have been helpful to mention that the restaurant was being refurbished, the bar staff were helpful and arranged tables to seat 11 of us.Broken drawers in bedroom too. But overall we had a nice relaxing weekend."
Verified Guest - Jan 2025
"Our Messingham Grange review: With going out of season the price of the lodge was excellent. Good points - it was huge. The hot tub was great. Beds were made up and towels were provided. There's an Asda and other shops & pubs a short drive away. Bad points - someone had overloaded the dishwasher that hadn't washed the pots properly and left. Not sure if it was the cleaner or the previous family but we ended up washing other people's pots before we could use them. Also there was a bad smell, like foisty. If we had been staying longer than a few nights I would of asked to change lodges. But it smelt like the carpet had been washed and it had taken too long to dry. When handing my key in I had to wait for the young man to finish playing on his mobile, just thought that was a bit rude."
Loraine - Jan 2025
"The master bed needs changing, sags in the middle"
Samantha - Dec 2024
"Definitely will be returning, an absolute pleasure to stay here.Immaculate Lodge with everything you need home from home. The hot tub was a huge bonus. The area was well taken care of and it was soo quiet and peaceful .Asda was a 5 minute drive away , you do need a car as there's nothing on the doorstep but that's why it was a lovely quiet place to stay. Staff were lovely and helpful too."
M.W - Nov 2024
"Brand new and lovely for our family. The fenced off garden was perfect for the dogs."
Duncan - Nov 2024
"Rear gated garden was a surprise to us but brilliant to let the dogs run around and have a play. Would definitely recommend here for anyone with pets."
Simon - Oct 2024
"As always we had a relaxing few days, alternating between the hot tub, and strolling about the park. The golf clubhouse offers tasty food and drink at reasonable prices and has a closeup view of the 18th fairway and green."
DEREK - Oct 2024
"We stayed in a 1 bed dog friendly lodge. The cleanliness was great, the decor and super king bed were amazing. Good WiFi and a lovely touch of doggie welcome packs for both our dogs. We used the Clubhouse regularly in the 7 nights we stayed. All the staff were super friendly and couldnt do enough for us and our dogs. The hospitality was superb! We also ate in the Clubhouse and the food was delicious and freshly prepared. We tried the cooked breakfast, Roast dinner and an evening meal - highly recommend them all. The only improvement I would recommend would be to supply oven gloves and a tea towel in the lodge. And possibly a few more essentials like soap and washing up liquid. Also, having two dogs in the lodge for a week I would have used a broom if one was available. One more thing, a gate on the decking to stop our dogs from getting down the steps would have been most helpful. All in all we had a fantastic time and wouldnt hesitate to go back and stay. Lovely people!"
Sonya - Sep 2024
"I would recommend staying at Messingham Lakes, we have never been disappointed with any stay we have had with Hoseasons."
Nigel John Dawson - Sep 2024
"Lodge (1 bed) was fine for the money we paid for our 3 night stay but it does lack some basics ie information pack and emergency contact numbers. no frying pan and can opener useless no where to put soap or shampoos in the shower, these days a smart tv and airfrier is expected.the kitchen and living area tends to be dark due to the trees and bushes in front of the decking area so does not receive much of the sun on good days.the lodge itself is comfortable and has been updated the extra large bed was superb.the staff at the club house were excellent and the food and drink is of a good standard and reasonably priced. the club house itself is welcoming and due for a refurb in the near future as i understand but is still a good high standard.would i recommend staying yes at the right price but you have to be a little forgiving for the few things it lacks as mentioned.will we return yes i see no reason not to."
Martin - Sep 2024
"Ants everywhere inside the lodge and maintainence man decided to clean out the hot tub on the first day of the holiday so we couldnt use it too just not very well thought out to be honest"
Heidi - Jul 2024
"Just got back from Messingham Grange we paid for a VIP hot tub lodge but unfortunately it wasnt what we would expect for a VIP. The cleaning has a lot to be desired there was dust and cobwebs in every room from the wood cladding in the bedrooms to the main lights in every room, the windows could also do with a window clean. We also asked for a coffee table as we went over the Christmas period we had a massive space in the middle of the lounge area which was obviously for a coffee table to put your drinks and nibbles on as there was no side tables to do this either the reception did bring one to us without a fuss but its the point we had to ask for it in the first place when it showed this on the website what the lodge had. It would also be nice if they had a living room lounge lamp for the evening as not everyone likes bright light. There was also no side lamp in the twin bedroom so the kids could have it on in the evening before going to sleep and weirdly no wardrobe space in the main bedroom to hang your clothes. The shower packed up 2 days before we were going home and we only one shelf in the oven to cook a Christmas dinner. The reception also did bring us a toilet brush as we didnt have one in either of the toilets. They are pet friendly but do not provide dog bins around the park when you take your dog for a walk so be prepared. Overall unfortunately we go away a-lot in the Uk and we do like to pay a little more for the money to get what we pay for but we did not feel this was the case here! a standard lodge for less money would of been sufficient."
Verified Guest - Jan 2024
"Poor cleanliness overall within the lodge and hottub"
Colin - Nov 2023
"Arrived ar 4 and collected keys. Lodge size is great - big bedrooms, plenty of space. Unfortunately it was very dirty. We found chips on the floor in one of the bedrooms and it became clear the lodge had not been hoovered. Management sent over a hoover so we could do it ourselves! Party of 8 but only seating for 6 (sofa was filthy with items stuffed down the sides) and 6 dining chairs. Old food in grooves of table. Not much in the way of kitchen equipment for 8 people. Outside light had been smashed and left on decking. Management didn't seem bothered and didn't replace. Upstairs shower leaked through to downstairs and we had to use towels to mop up. Again management said not to worry and just continue using it! Overall, this lodge could be great if it was cleaned and maintained properly. Wouldn't book there again."
Verified Guest - Nov 2023
"just not clean enough for us. The hot tub only had one speed. No one seemed to be able to answer any questions when we asked them."
Verified Guest - Nov 2023
"Fantastic hot tub and beautiful lodge and surroundings we had a lovely time even with a couple of ups and downs which staff did try to help with quickly"
Diane - May 2023
"Brilliant & cosy cottage far enough out the way to be secluded but close enough to local amenities. Amazing hotub & bathroom with underfloor heating throughout tops it off. The owners, Rob & Sharon are wonderful! (And of course Bonnie) Will definitely be coming back again for longer ASAP!!"
Christopher - Apr 2025
"Beautiful cottage with hot tub and log burner. lovely hosts, peaceful, perfect for our mini break. Hope to return for longer soon!"
Emma - Apr 2025
"Really well equipped house, lovely and warm too which was so nice on a rainy December day! Bath was just lovely and a nice big shower! The property is under a flight path - this did not disturb us at all! Dont be put off! A great location for dogs who hate fireworks as it's in the middle of nowhere. Really beautiful, well converted property. Thank you! "
Phoebe - Apr 2025
"It was everything we wanted for our weekend away and we loved staying here. We'll definitely be back! Our pups absolutely loved the underfloor heating and had so much fun in the garden. In fact Luna came home with a strained tail and according to the vet it was because she was wagging it so much over the weekend!! Very happy pups and hoomans!"
Andrew - Apr 2025
"Lovely cottage. Great location for us. Away from the hustle and bustle. Great hot tub . Lovely helpful non intrusive owners. They have it just right!"
Simon - Apr 2025
"Absolutely loved how well maintained and equipped this cottage is. Plenty of dog walks right on the doorstep. Very friendly host, they were so efficient and communication was excellent. We enjoyed meeting the animals on the farm and the very curious pig penelope. Perfect escape for us and the doggos. Will definitely be back, brilliant value!! Highly recommend. "
Brooke - Apr 2025
"Beautiful property, spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable, had a fabulous break, hot tub amazing x"
Libby - Apr 2025
"Very kind and considerate owners. Couldnt be better. Enormously helpful and extremely pleasant. Charming half-timbered cottage with a great strong shower, cosy kitchen & living room combination and very comfortable bed. Fantastic parking directly next to the rented cottage. Well heated and very charming, and spotlessly clean. Great walks across the fields to the local village of Thaxted and of course within easy travelling distance of the village, replete with half-timbered houses and windmill. "
James - Apr 2025
"We had a wonderful time in Goddard Mead. The cottage was very complete and there were walks on the doorstep. The welcome and stay was very warm. The owners are lovely people."
Annemieke - Apr 2025
"The owners Rob & Sharon, have gone to a great deal of work to sympathetically convert this historic building & we couldn't have had a warmer greeting from them both & of course Bonnie. Goddard's Mead has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The location is in a great area of Essex and would recommend taking the time to wander around Thaxted and other villages/towns nearby to discover it's fascinating history & buildings. "
Carol - Apr 2025
"Such a lovely place to stay in a really beautiful, private location. The owners were really friendly and helpful, nearby if needed but without breaking that sense of privacy. The hot tub was perfect after a day of cycling! One thing to be aware of, the cottage is right under Stansted's flight path, and so there's a lot of aircraft noise. It only took us a couple of hours to get used to it and it didn't spoil our holiday at all, but something to be aware of if you're sensitive to noise. "
