About High Lodge

Excellent facilities, luxury accommodation and 100 acres of beautiful Suffolk countryside – just a few reasons why we love High Lodge in Darsham. There’s a 9 hole golf course, a well stocked fishing lake – and the gorgeous beaches of Dunwich and Southwold are just a few miles away. Cycling, walking and the beautiful gardens at Bressingham and Ipswich will make this holiday one to remember!

As well as golf and coarse fishing, you can try your hand at clay pigeon shooting – there’s expert tuition available if you want it. The clubhouse and bar both serve a good variety of food and the surrounding towns and villages have an excellent choice of pubs and restaurants. We love the Lady Florence River Cruise Restaurant which sets sail from Orford for a cruise, while you enjoy either a champagne brunch or a delicious dinner.

Many of the lodges have their own hot tubs on private, furnished verandahs. Swift Lodge VIP 4 sleeps four people in a double bedroom and a twin. It has a flat screen TV, a DVD player and even an iPod docking station. You can take in the beautiful views across the lakes from the privacy of your own hot tub!

Suffolk is full of visitor attractions and the perfect choice (in our opinion) for a holiday. The town of Snape Maltings is a great place to visit with its interesting, independent shops and the farmers’ markets - and of course, Great Yarmouth is a bustling seaside town with lots going on. The pier is now used for regular entertainment, including stand up comedy and live music.

High Lodge Reviews

"Very good and relaxing"
Verified Guest - Oct 2024
"Wonderful lodge had everything we needed. View of lake is splendid.Just a minor detail, in the bathroom there is no where to put a toilet bag and in the shower no where to put shower gel or flannel. We will be back in the future and would request the same lodge."
Verified Guest - Oct 2024
"Lovely lodge overlooking the lake. A bit confused as to why the fishing posts are we're they are but didn't use it as we do not fish !"
Verified Guest - Aug 2024
"A great relaxing break with good fishing within yards of the lodge. Plenty of interesting places close by too. The lodge is large, comfortable and well equipped."
Paul - Aug 2024
"We went home within one day."
Peter - Apr 2024
"The lodge was okay. Bedroom is spacious which is nice and there is a tv in there as well as the living room. The view from the veranda, over the little lake, is lovely too as were the sweet treats left as a welcome gift and the other few necessities provided, e.g. extra bin bags, small carton of milk, toilet rolls, a fan in the cupboard (useful as many lodges weve visited havent provide this). However, for the price, a few things fell short compared to other lodges weve stayed at. The bed was big, but not overly comfortable. The hot tub worked, which was good, though it sounded like it was on its last legs which made it difficult to relax without the jets on, as the motor made a continuous loud juddering type of noise that couldnt be ignored. The cover for the hot tub controls was also crumbling away, meaning you cant really read which button does what (also just doesnt look very nice). Though the biggest let down was that there wasnt a bath tub in the bathroom, as included in the advertisement pictures. I feel that the picture should be updated to reflect the actual bathroom, considering we booked this lodge because we believed there would be a bath tub, just to arrive and there not be one - or perhaps explicitly say that the bathroom picture is not for this particular lodge. Every other picture for the inside of the lodge was accurate, just the bathroom is not for some reason. So, again, we booked here purely for the hot tub and bathtub - and one sounded broken while the other wasnt there, so for that reason we will likely not rebook this lodge in future."

"Was lovely, could have moved in permanently. Just wish it came with a sofa bed."

"Excellent lodge all round! Very clean and with modern fittings. Everything we needed and at a great price. We loved the very comfortable bed, which had plenty of pillows and also enjoyed the homemade goodies from the local bakery, which were left for us to enjoy!"

Maurice - Feb 2020
"We totally enjoyed our stay at high lodge it was peaceful and relaxing . We are planning to go again. Hopefully soon"
Norris - Jul 2022
"We were a party of 6 ladies celebrating a 60th Birthday. The setting of our Lodge was wonderful, peaceful and with lots of wildlife including some cheeky hares, ducks and other birds. We didn’t use any of the facilities. The restaurant had limited opening times which didn’t suit us. Something tripped our power and we had to call out of hours and they were exceptionally helpful. Great communications and someone came to check too. Lovely hot tub which seemed to work better after the electrical issue! Comfortable beds, good outdoor table and seating and the kitchen was equipped sufficiently to cook basic meals. The dishwasher was a little unpredictable. The check in was very limited - open from 4.00pm to 5.00pm which when travelling a distance we felt was a little unreasonable. Email details were sent on how to access as we were still travelling at 5.00pm. It did feel a little remote and you need a car to get anywhere really. However if you want a break where you stay on site, participate in High Lodge activities such as the target sports and fishing then it would suit you well. Overall we enjoyed our weekend break and would recommend."
Ellie - Jul 2022
"Lovely peaceful setting, apart from clay shooting, but I expected that.. cafe was clean and pleasant with lovely staff, both there and on reception. I did have a broken window latch, which I reported, but nothing done about it. Cabin could be easily accessed while I was away. A bit of concern for me. I am what you’d call a person with walking difficulties, but I am able to climb a few steps and walk short distances over gravel paths. I’m not sure if you cater for wheelchair/mobility scooter users but the gravel could be very difficult. Perhaps a couple of hard surface disability parking spaces outside reception would be useful, therefore enabling easy access to the cafe etc.. do you even have any cabins accessible for wheelchairs? It would be good if you have , because the cabins are roomy enough inside. A wet room shower room would probably be needed. I loved the way the cabins all overlooked the lake, without looking into each other’s accommodation."
Jean - Jul 2022
"A most enjoyable and relaxing stay would thoroughly recommend this site"
Raymond - Jul 2022
"Perfect place for relaxation and peace with everything we needed in a superb lodge."
Evelyn - Jul 2022
"the lodge was superb and spotless.staff were very very friendly.only thing lacking was air con but we had taken our own fan.will not rate the restaurant as we did not use ."
Keith - Jul 2022
"Friendly welcome beautiful surroundings lodges are very well equipped the with lovely furniture and comfy beds. Nicely situated around the lake with privacy for all."
Sue - Jun 2022
"My husband had an accident whilst on holiday and the staff went above and beyond the call of duty in their help and support. We were unable to use the facilities but the location was stunning."
John - Jun 2022
"Had a great time and have already recommended to others"

Attractions Near High Lodge

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to High Lodge. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Africa Alive - NR33 7TF
about 11 Miles
Africa Alive is one of Suffolk's largest attractions and one of the most popular in the whole of the UK.  The Africa themed park is very unique and gives visitors the chance to see some amazing creatures in a habitat which is as close to nature as possible. The park can be explored by car and on foot and Hyenas and Giraffes are just some of the animals you will encounter as you make your way around the park. Watch out for the lightning fast Cheetahs and keep your eyes peeled to spot the more reclusive creatures. During a day at Africa Alive there will be plenty of shows and educational talks taking place and if the weather turns then the indoor Adventure Play Ground comes in very handy. The site also has a well stocked Gift Shop and a Discovery Centre.
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park - NR32 4TZ
about 16 Miles
Pleasurewood Hills Theme Park is an amazing 50 acres area of stunning coastal parkland and is packed with family friendly rides and attractions. This park is an excellent choice for families with children of varied ages as there are a number of small rides for the little ones as well as some adrenaline boosting white knuckle rides for teenagers. As well as rides the site hosts some fantastic shows including the ever popular Sea Lion and Parrot encounters. At Halloween, Christmas and Easter other themed shows can also be enjoyed.  The site also has a good range of places to eat and drink whether you are looking to spend a leisurely hour relaxing with a meal or just grab a quick snack.
Suffolk Owl Sanctuary - IP28 6HX
about 18 Miles
This amazing owl sanctuary located in the Stowmarket area of Suffolk should be high on your list of places to visit in the area.  The attraction is also a registered charity and carries out important work in the care & rehabilitation of owls from the region.  The sanctuary also raises awareness of owl conservation throughout the UK.  Between April and the end of September there are two superb flying displays each day so you should try and make your visit coincide with one of these displays if you can.
Banham Zoo - NR16 2HE
about 24 Miles
This award winning wildlife attraction has much to offer both families and couples looking for a fun and educational day out.  You can discover a whole wild world of animals with over 1000 different animals from around the world. You will probably want to try and spend the whole day here so you don's miss out on anything.  Highlights include the amazing animals presentation, the birds of prey display and the feeding talks, all of which take place at set times of the day.  This attraction is fantastic value for money and highly recommended.  Their latest event is the Snow Leopard Club Naming Auction and there has recently been a baby giraffe born at the zoo.
Bewilderwood - NR12 8JW
about 29 Miles
Bewilderwood is a fun day out for the whole family located in the Wroxham area of Norfolk.  This imaginative adventure park has won awards and we think kids especially will love the characters and the magical tree houses. You can even book your ticket online and beat the queues by visiting their website where you can also view video clips of the park. This place is also the setting for the book 'A Boggle at BeWILDerwood', by local children's author Tom Blofeld.  Parents are not left out either as you're encouraged to take part and play alongside your children.
Melsop Farm Park - NR20 3DT
about 32 Miles
We love this attraction in Scoulton, Norfolk with a great collection of animals.  Children and adults alike have the chance to get hands on with the animals in the special handling areas.  On rainy days there is always the indoor play area for the little ones and when it's time for a bite to eat the cafe on the farm is open all day selling drinks and snacks.  Hot food is available over lunch times.
Dinosaur Adventure Park - NR9 5JW
about 34 Miles
This fun family day out has been well planned and we think is certainly worth a visit.  New for 2010 is the PrimEvil at Dinosaur Adventure.  Other fun activities include the Dinosaur Trail, Arachnophobia, the Raptor Races and the adventure play area.  The secret animal garden is also popular.  You can play a role in wildlife conservation and sponsor an animal if you wish.  At the moment if you sign up for their newsletter there is a chance to win a family ticket.
Ickworth House, Park & Gardens - IP29 5QE
about 38 Miles
The National Trust Ickworth House, Park & Gardens is a Beautiful 1800 acre country estate with many attractions including a fantastic adventure playground for the children and a range of nature trails which the whole family will enjoy. The site also has a family friendly cycle route a gift shop and a small café
