There are so many self-catering lodges with hot tubs in the UK now that offer fishing either on-site or at a nearby location we wanted to make a simple page to help you dig out a break that’s perfect for you. You’ll find well-stocked lakes offering everything from carp to catfish.
Whether you’ve been fishing for years or you’re a new angler, you should be able to find a good place for your next holiday and get some fishing in while you’re there. It’s a win-win for everyone as non-fishers can stay in a luxury lodge and enjoy spending time with family.
Above you’ll find some of the top places currently in the UK that feature cabins with private hot tubs and either a fishing lake on-site or with fishing available near your accommodation. Whether you’re looking for a long weekend, or a longer break with plenty to see and do (and eat and drink!) you should be able to find your perfect lodge.
The UK’s coarse fishing lakes, rivers and lochs offer some great opportunities to fish for many kinds of fish of varying weights
Don’t know your bobber from your bait? Just getting into fishing? This section is for you. Let’s go over some of the basics for enjoying a relaxing fishing break at one of our lodges with hot tubs.
One of the best tips for fishing at UK lodges is to get to ask the lodge owner or anyone you see fishing at the lake for tips! It can save you a lot of time and frustration and there’ll normally be at least one or two other anglers who will be able to offer some advice on what hooks, bait and what worked for them.
Want an easy life on your fishing break? One pro tip is to figure out how deep the lake is you’re fishing and adjust your tactics accordingly. A lot of fish will go to the bottom so if your bait is floating around the top, you might be in for a long wait.
If this is your first fishing holiday, don’t forget to pack some of these. This float makes it easy to see when a fish is nibbling. You just watch for it to move and then lift the rod to set the hook.
There are many kinds of fish you’ll encounter on a UK fishing break so find out what’s swimming in the lakes near your lodge before you go.
If this is your first UK fishing break, or even if you’re looking for something reliable that will work in most lakes, with most species, a worm will catch just about anything. Catfish, tilapia, carp, bass and a lot more. These fish are more than happy to nibble a worm at the bottom of a lake and you can’t go wrong with a simple worm and a small circle hook and a Caroline rig.
Here’s some specific bait you can also try if you’re going after a certain fish.
If you’re a new angler, you’ll likely want to book a lodge for summer as the fish will be more active then.
