For anyone who loves fishing almost as they love their pets, going on a UK lodge break with the pooch that has its own fishing lake might sound like heaven on earth. Think tranquil settings, picturesque private lakes and lots of space and peace and quiet. In this guide, we’ll explore booking a pet friendly lodge break in the UK that offers fishing.
Hopefully, you’ll be able to quickly find a lodge near you using our tool above (with some sneaky discounts too!)
There are really two ways you can book a pet-friendly break where you’ll be able to get stuck into a serious bit of fishing.
The benefits to this are you can pick any lodge that’s near your chosen area. The downside is the fishing won’t be on-site and you’ll have to do a bit of travelling to get there. No biggie.
This one has an extra bit of work but there are some pretty crazy price reductions on lodges next to good fishing spots if you do a little extra digging! Here’s how:
This is one of the easiest ways to dig out a really good fishing cabin that allows dogs.
These lodges are all pet friendly, have their own private hot tub and have a fishing lake on site.
Scotland & the Highlands – Booking a cheeky weekend away in Bonnie Scotland is the ideal way to recharge and unwind with your pet and loved ones. Renowned for it’s movie-esque landscapes and fishing opportunities, it’s a great place for a lodge break with the mutt. Cast your line in Loch Lomond, River Spey and Loch Tay with your pet right there beside you.
The Lake District – this is a fantastic location for anglers and pet owners with its stunning lakes, many activities and beautiful landscapes, this is one of the UK’s most popular lodge break destinations. There are many lodges here that are both pet friendly. Bassenthwaite Lake, Derwentwater and Ullswater are the most popular locations and you can expect to fish for trout, pike and perch.
Snowdonia National Park – Another place both anglers and dogs will enjoy exploring is the breathtaking Welsh National Park. There are many lodges where you can book a holiday and enjoy fishing for carp and other species from a lake right next to your lodge. Take a look at Heron’s Lake Retreat in Snowdonia, or Heronstone Lodges in the picturesque Powys, in the North of Wales.
After you’ve stayed in a lodge (especially one with its own hot tub) staying in a B&B or a hotel just isn’t the same somehow. Here’s a super-quick list of some of the things you can enjoy if this is your first lodge getaway.
All the comforts from home (any maybe a few extras…) – There’s nothing quite like rolling up at a cabin, unpacking and having everything you have at home right there in the lodge. Being able to make a snack, or grab a ‘free’ beer from the fridge… perfect. You can pack your car with as much as you can take.
The UK has many quality lodges with hot tubs with their own fishing lakes where you can take your pet and significant other.
If there’s anything we can help you with, or if you’re struggling to find a good lodge that has both fishing and a hot tub and allows pets, get in touch and we’ll be happy to help you out.
Work out your food shopping the same as you would at home. But think about how many times you’ll be dining out. If you’re going out for the day, you might go to a cafe or restaurant but you can also make a picnic which we do a lot when we go away. That way we can enjoy some of the fab scenery and save a few pounds along the way!
This is going to be one of those annoying ‘it depends’ but it does depend on the lodge park you’re booking. I’ve seen a lot of places where they don’t charge you and others where there’s a fee, albeit not exactly a fortune.
The lodges we’ve stayed at are generally flexible when it comes to taking your dog as long as you adhere to basic things like cleaning up after the pet. There are often restrictions on the number of dogs. Very rarely, lodge owners will have restrictions on the size of the dog but that’s very rare in my experience! And the often quotes ‘well-behaved’ requirement, which really covers things like how much noise dogs make.
This does vary a great deal between lodges and it’s worth checking on the website before booking. Carp are obviously a very popular one but you’ll often find lodges with multiple lakes on-site offering different species of fish such as Pike, Salmon and Trout.
If you’re taking your food with you, make sure to stock up on cool bags for things like frozen goods and dairy. If you’re driving 2-3 hours in a car, they’re essential. When you get to your lodge they’ll be fresh and ready to store in the fridge and freezer.
Another thing we’ve started doing recently is getting our food shop delivered from Asda, Tesco or whoever, once we arrive at the lodge. Check before you book if this is available as it can save a lot of packing and precious car space, which will be at a premium if you’ve got to leave plenty of room for your dogs.
