About Nunland Hillside Lodges

Gorgeous panoramic views, a rugged coastline, beautiful sandy beaches and tranquil lochs - Nunland Hillside Lodges has it all. Dumfriesshire is a magical part of Scotland and the lodges here nestle in a hillside with views over the foothills and forests of Dumfries and Galloway. There is a wealth of pubs and restaurants and some delightful towns and villages to explore. Casa Mia at Dumfries really is a home from home where you can enjoy delicious Italian food before heading back to the lodge to enjoy an evening in your own private hot tub.

Hire your bike at Nunland Hillside Lodges and head to Dumfries for the 7 Stanes Ae, a popular location for mountain bikers. It has a range of trails to suit all abilities and an established downhill course. For a great family activity day, there's the Galloway Sailing Centre, which offers sailing, windsurfing, power boating, kayaking, canoeing, archery and much more, and all on the beautiful shores of Loch Ken.

We thoroughly recommend Criffel Hilltop Lodge, a contemporary and spacious lodge which is brand new for 2012. The views across the countryside are unrivalled and it has a family bathroom, a master double with ensuite and fully glazed patio doors that lead out onto a spacious decking area with its own outdoor hot tub. It sleeps up to four people and has a washer/dryer and flat screen TV with Freeview and DVD.

Dog Sport Scotland runs amazing sled dog races through the heavily forested region of Dumfries and Galloway. Drumlanrig Castle in Thornhill is an ancient Douglas stronghold and home to the Duke of Buccleuch and Queensbury - it sits on a 120,000 acre estate which is beautiful for walks. For a bit of retail therapy, you'll find all the high street shops - and more - at the Loreburne Shopping Centre in Dumfries.

Nunland Hillside Lodges Reviews

"Fantastic lodge , great hot- tub. Very modern and clean, well kept site. Staff and owners are great nothing too much trouble"
Michael - Oct 2024
"This was a beautiful lodge, with everything we needed provided. Hot tub was perfect, beds were comfortable, and showers were nice and warm.Only negative we had was the spiral staircase. It looks lovely, but with a toddler and a child with mobility issues, it was a wee bit daunting letting them sleep themselves up there. Love the feature, just maybe not practical for our family."

"Was a fantastic break away. Does need a little decor uplift, as a little dated worn.
The lights in the hot tub were broken but we kept the outside light on.
There was also a wasps nest. Pretty pesky during the day but we were out most of the daytime and at night the wasps were not a bother."

Mabie Farm Park is a firm favourite. Ideal for families with younger children ,this family oriented farm park has lots of animals to meet and also offers Donkey Rides, Paddle Boats and Slides as well as Trampolines and Bouncy Castles. Kids can run around on the Soft Play Area while mum and dad relax in the Tea Room. There is also a Farm Shop onsite selling toys, gifts and fresh local produce including cakes and jams. Seasonal activities can also be enjoyed including a spookly tea and walk on Haloween. The Farm closes for the winter on October 31st.
Castle Douglas - DG7 1TJ

We also recommend a visit to Castle Douglas and the Treasure Hunt Treasure Trails. These treasure hunts are great fun for the whole family and are an entertaining way to explore a new town or village. Children will enjoy solving the clues whilst learning about the history of the area. The walking trail is suitable for wheelchair users and those with pushchairs so no one is left out of the fun.

We love this day out in Cumbria where you're encouraged to "take a fresh look".  Some of the amazing animals you will get to see include the only Canadian Lynx in the UK and you will have the opportunity to help their Lynx Conservation Project.  The Asian Fishing Cat is also well worth a look - these cats are known for diving under the water and catching fish!  Other activities include fantastic flying displays and play areas for the little ones...
Tullie House Museum & Art Gallery - CA3 8TP
about 32 Miles
This is a museum and art gallery in one and will suit those looking for an educational and cultural day out.  You can explore the fantastic art collection including Fine Art, Decorative Art and Textiles.  If you love nature then this aspect of Tullie House will appeal. The museum holds large and important collections of zoological, botanical and geological material. And for lovers of history there is plenty to wet your appetite here. Tullie House collects a wide range of historic materials including objects, ephemera (printed material), photographs and associated information files.  We think this museum and art gallery are excellent value for money as well.
