Herons Mead Cottages Reviews

"Absolutely gorgeous cottage! Had everything that we needed. The bedrooms and en suites were great - fantastic sizes. Super clean. Lovely outdoor space with hot tub. We were told the hot tub may not be up to temperature on the first evening but we tried it and it was fine. Lovely touches with the welcome pack, robes, and slippers. The only thing that would make it better, and this is me being extremely picky (first world problems) would be if the hot tub was under cover as it rained quite a bit whilst we were there so couldn't use it as much as we would have liked. We will definitely return."

"Beautiful accommodation. Comfortable and clean. Hottub is perfect."

"We had a great time, so did our doggies, the lodge was beautiful!"

"We had an unfortunate stay in The Little Potting Shed and are very unlikely to stay again. On arrival we noticed that The Bar and Cafe on site was being renovated and was completely closed. This wasn't mentioned at all on booking or during any confirmation correspondence on the run up to the stay, nor when picking up our keys on arrival. The Little Potting Shed is a good size for 2 adults and 1 medium dog. It's quirky and a bit different, which is what drew us to booking in the first place. Overall, there are some really lovely touches; fresh flowers on the table, a couple of small bottles of prosecco. The doggy bag and dish cleaning pack is always a welcome extra however we have stayed in a few places now that offer this, so this is nothing special in comparison to other, similar accommodations (for similar prices). These lovely touches unfortunately became null and void when we realised the cleanliness of The Little Potting Shed was very much below par. The rug in the living area clearly hadn't been vacuumed recently and the tiles in the bathroom were quite frankly, disgusting. The sink splashback in particular was not acceptable, being covered in toothpaste flicks and no doubt previous stayers' saliva. The mirror had what can only be described as a caked on bogey and blue toothpaste marks on the frame. The shower tiles need a good steam and scrub. We raised these issues to staff via text message (as instructed on arrival) and received a promising response. A cleaner was sent back in to rectify the issues when we were out of the accommodation for the afternoon. We arrived back to the rug looking immaculate, however the bathroom, shockingly, hadn't been touched; the caked on substance on the mirror had been flicked off (the remnants still clearly visible). The sink tiles and the mirror merely needed wiping with a cleaning solution as you could wipe it off with water. On alerting staff to the issue again, we were told that HR had been made aware but otherwise were offered no resolution. We cleaned the sink tiles and mirror with a water wipe (the only thing we had to hand) and very little effort. We still don't really understand why these things weren't just cleaned properly in the first place (vacuuming and wiping things down is surely a bare minimum - especially in a post covid world), and we're quite astounded that on raising the issues, it was thought doing a quick vacuum of a tiny rug would be sufficient (which again, should have already been cleaned in the first instance). The radiator in the living space and under the sink are also leaking; we didn't raise this, we were too passed the point of caringatthispoint."

"Waterlily cottage was really nicely decorated with a really comfortable bed . and lovely bathroom with great shower over the bath . Downstairs was just nice with nice touches like coffee machine and the welcome pack. The hot tub at the back of cottage was a winner."

"Another amazing stay at herons mead, cant wait to book up again."

"The Little Potting Shed was perfect for two adults and a dog, we loved the quirkiness of the accommodation. The little treats left for both us and the dog were a nice touch. Our only (minor) issue was the tv connection dropped out quite a bit in the evening but it didnt spoil our experience at all."
Sarah - Oct 2024
"Highly recommend we stayed in the little potting shed and it didn't disappoint .The only thing I would change was rhe bed as it was too high although once on it it was very comfy. All the extra touches were lovely. Would definitely stay again.our dog loved it."
Lynne marie - Sep 2024
"Nothing to fault. A lovely house."
Heather - Apr 2024
"Lovely little cozy cabin with quirky bed - if you have mobility problems this might be a slight issue as it is high but once in really comfortable. Lovely quality soft furnishings and denby pottery crockery ."

"Second visit to the little potting shed over Christmas this time thanks for the little extras and the Christmas tree love this place as location is good with several beaches near and many lovely villages to visit see you soon"
Jason - Dec 2023
"Really lovely cosy cottage with everything there that you need. Ideal for a weekend away. Site is in a quiet location and has a lovely cafe bar which serves lovely food."
Diana - Dec 2023
"The cottage was super! We were the first couple to use it and all the fittings and fixtures were as new. The design of the cottage was both modern and very attractive and the addition of a hot tub was the icing on the cake. The site was delightful and close to many attractions. We had meals and drinks in the on site bar/restaurant and we were always amazed at the quality. We met many of the staff and everyone of them were pleasant and helpful. We will certainly go again."
Michael - Jan 1970
"Gorgeous cottage with top quality furniture and furnishings. Everything within the cottage is high end making a stay even more enjoyable.
Underfloor heating very welcoming when there is a chill outside.
Lovely hot-tub.
Great surroundings. Very peaceful."

Phill - Jan 1970
"Amazing the little touches here really make it! We have booked to come back already :)"
Chloe - Jan 1970
"Top notch accomodation, everything is done to a very high standard and the hot tub is fabulous."
Philip - Jan 1970
"There was no breadbin and no cupboard to store food but otherwise we'll equipt"
Diane - Jan 1970
"Waterlily Cottage was spotlessly clean and the staff on site made sure everything was as should be. Great with the hot tub and dog friendly, ideal for the 2 of us and the dog.

This is not a criticism only some feedback, it would be good if there was somewhere to hang coats downstairs and maybe a footwear tray at the door to keep the place clean especially when the weather is bad and footwear is muddy."
Andrew - Jan 1970
"Brilliant & cosy cottage far enough out the way to be secluded but close enough to local amenities. Amazing hotub & bathroom with underfloor heating throughout tops it off. The owners, Rob & Sharon are wonderful! (And of course Bonnie) Will definitely be coming back again for longer ASAP!!"
Christopher - Apr 2025
"Beautiful cottage with hot tub and log burner. lovely hosts, peaceful, perfect for our mini break. Hope to return for longer soon!"
Emma - Apr 2025
"Really well equipped house, lovely and warm too which was so nice on a rainy December day! Bath was just lovely and a nice big shower! The property is under a flight path - this did not disturb us at all! Dont be put off! A great location for dogs who hate fireworks as it's in the middle of nowhere. Really beautiful, well converted property. Thank you! "
Phoebe - Apr 2025
"It was everything we wanted for our weekend away and we loved staying here. We'll definitely be back! Our pups absolutely loved the underfloor heating and had so much fun in the garden. In fact Luna came home with a strained tail and according to the vet it was because she was wagging it so much over the weekend!! Very happy pups and hoomans!"
Andrew - Apr 2025
"Lovely cottage. Great location for us. Away from the hustle and bustle. Great hot tub . Lovely helpful non intrusive owners. They have it just right!"
Simon - Apr 2025
"Lovely cottage, clean & all the facilities you need. Staff team very helpful and friendly. The Hide offers a tasty afternoon tea that we can recommend and dog friendly. Will definitely be coming back soon"
Rachel - Aug 2022
"We had another fabulous break at Herons Mead, the cottage was lovely and very tastefully decorated. The staff are amazing and very helpful and The Hide restaurant and bar offers great food and service. We will definitely be returning."
Amanda - Aug 2022
"Lovely cottage with excellent facilities, helpful staff on site and good local amenities, as an elderly couple with a small dog we found everything accessible, one suggestion for the shower/bath would be a non slip bath mat also a small table would be a good addition as we used the small outside table. The Hide cafe/bar on site is definitely worth a visit especially for Sunday lunch 5*(book a table) we also had a extremely good take away from there, overall highly recommend"
Noel - Aug 2022
"5star accommodation ! Spotless and beautifully presented, fishing was good and the food at the Hide bar was fantastic with lovely friendly staff only downside was closing at 6pm weekdays 8pm fri and sat apart from that was a lovely break ! ?"
Lloyd - Jul 2022
"Had a lovely weekend couldn’t fault anything really - beautiful accommodation - very clean - helpful friendly staff couldn’t recommend it more"
Karen - Jul 2022
"Very clean, modern and spacious. Fully equipped and welcome package for me and the dogs. Hot tub great and enclosed. A great location and able to visit Skegness and Mablethorpe with ease. Wish I would have stayed longer."
Tanya - Jul 2022
"Loved our stay at Red Robin 2, lots of room inside, a small outside area, but lovely hot tub! We had drinks in the Hide and an excellent Sunday Lunch there. Close to the coast."
Deborah - Jul 2022
"We didn’t know what to expect when arriving at Herons Mead. You see pictures and comments but until you arrive you are never sure. Well I can say without any shadow of doubt that this is a superb cottage and venue. Everything was first class, so clean, equipped to the highest order. The site was really beautiful, with ducks and geese as residents ? the restaurant/ bar also was first class. The meals were excellent and all the staff were so friendly and helpful. Finally the hot tub was a very welcome addition. As you can see we were more than happy at what was on offer at Herons Mead. Will be back next year, just got to decide which week."
Kevin - Jul 2022

Joseph - Jul 2022

Graham - Jul 2022
"It was lovely really enjoyed it thanks ?"
Peter - Jul 2022
"Staff were lovely although, on Sunday we went to have just a few drinks as it was my birthday on the Monday but unfortunately she said they weren't allowed to serve just two people, alittle disappointed by that as in the visits book guest wrote that the staff couldn't do enough for them, even if we were to take the drinks back to the cottage with us, but I guess rules or rules."
Cheryl - Jun 2022
"Great weekend The Potting Shed was very quirky well designed and all you need. Site was very quiet and well set out"

Attractions Near Herons Mead Cottages

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Herons Mead Cottages. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Natureland Seal Sanctuary - PE25 1DB
about 4 Miles
Awarded the Lincolnshire Family Attraction of the Year award in recent years this fun day out is recommended. You can see seals and penguins, as well as other animals in the popular pets corner.  Feeding time for the seals and penguins is the real highlight of the day. Entertainment, education and conservation are the main aims of this attraction. Natureland's work with abandoned baby seals has become known worldwide and it's carefully researched rearing and treatment program is now used by many other rescue centres.
Rushmoor Country Park - GU10 1ET
about 17 Miles
Located in Louth in Lincolnshire this is an ideal attraction when you want to get out in the fresh air and explore. There are many animals to see including ponies and piglets which the little ones love.  There are also some amazing birds from hawks and falcons to owls.  Most aspects of this attraction are included in the admission cost and as well as wandering around you get to hold and feed the animals too.  A real highlight are the micro pigs which are just like real pigs but in miniature.  Fully grown they are around the size of a spaniel!  If you get hungry then you can take your own picnic to the picnic areas or head for the tea room selling delicious food and children's meals too.
Pleasure Island - DN35 0PL
about 28 Miles
Wow this is an amazing family theme park and you will probably need the full day to experience it all.  From thrilling rides to family shows, kids of all ages are catered for.  Some of the most popular rides include the Obliterator and The Pendulus, not forgetting the Hypoblaster.   Family shows are entertaining such as the African Acrobat Show which is back by popular demand.  Entrance tickets are good value and if you book online you will receive a discount. To save even more money if you live locally or are visiting the area for a few weeks you could buy a season ticket for around £50 which will allow you entry for the whole season.
The Jungle Zoo - NR31 9EY
about 29 Miles
Centred around a Tropical House in an amazing jungle like setting this is a really unique attraction that will appeal to families.  In the Cleethorpes area of Lincolnshire it's easy to get to and offers a fun yet educational experience.  Referred to as the number one attraction in the area highlights include capuchin monkeys, meerkats, ring tailed lemur and for the children African pygmy goats.  The tropical house features Red Eared and other Terrapins from North America and goldfish amongst other things.  We think The Jungle Zoo represents excellent value for money too.  We recommend a whole day to explore this attraction and ensure you get to see all of the animals resident there.
Bishops Boats Seal Trips - NR23 1RY
about 34 Miles
This is a really unique attraction running daily seal watching trips from the middle of March right through to the end of October.  The experienced skippers will lead you out on one of the traditional wooden boats where you will have the chance to see both common and grey seals.  If you love animals then this is one attraction not to be missed! They also do some boat trips combined with guides on dry land such as seal watching combined with a visit to Blakeney Point Nature Reserve, owned by the National Trust.  We think this attraction is excellent value for money as they keep their admission prices low.
Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens - NR21 0LN
about 35 Miles
if you and your family are interested in nature and wildlife then Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens is the perfect place for a day out. This beautiful area of national parkland is home to a huge range of common and rare birds from sparrows to Red Crowned Cranes and also has a red squirrel enclosure - part of a conservation programme and now home to a family of adorable squirrels. Other activities to enjoy at Pensthorpe include pond dipping and Landrover discovery tours. Pensthorpe also played host to BBC'S Springwatch in 2010.
