Helsey Farm Cottages Reviews

"As previously stated needs a catch on the hot tub cover. Also a lid lifter would be handy as its a two person job to put the hot tub lid back on"
Nick - Mar 2024
"Absolutely loved it, gorgeous little cottage. Perfect for a long weekend as a couple with our dog. Loved the hot tub and would definitely be back."
Megan - Mar 2024
"A gorgeous little cottage, perfect for two and exploring the Lincolnshire coast...It is furnished beautifully, personally I would update the sofa and stools at the breakfast bar, but everything else was spot on.The hot-tub was an added bonus and it was lovely to arrive to a complimentary plum bread, jam and milk.Would highly recommend."
Josie - Mar 2024
"The lodge was perfect and in excellent condition. Very clean and had everything we needed."
Sophie - Feb 2024
"Holiday lodge was lovely with a very thoughtful welcome pack. Would definitely use it again."

"Had the best time ever love this place is so clean inviting spacious hot tub is brilliant even a Christmas tree indoor and out definitely going back again ."
June - Jan 2024
"The break was lovely The lodge immaculateThe hot tub not so great unfortunatelyIt wasnt very warm at all and we only managed to dip in for 10minutes on Xmas morning as not that warm to sit inAs it was Xmas only emergencies were tended to at the facility (we felt this wasnt an emergency) and although it was very disappointing not to use the hot tub to its full advantage we tried to not let it ruin our otherwise lovely break"

"A really nice little development, we got a nice friendly welcome from the lady on reception who was really helpful. The lodge itself was amazing, from the open plan lay out to the mood lighting and of course the hot tub. 10 mins from Ingoldmells and 20 from Skegness so good location for days out. Overall a really nice lodge and one of the best we have stayed in, thank you for a great experience, we will definitely be back."
Simon - Nov 2023
"Absolutely lovely long weekend at the lodge. The hot tub was fantastic and the lodge was very comfortable with everything we needed. The site is so peaceful and lovely views of the lake. We enjoyed going to the nearby al paca farm and donkey sanctuaries and only 15 mins from the beach!"
Pippa - Nov 2023
"It was amazing value and very roomy in the shared areas. Hot tub was great and lovely views onto the lake. A few areas for improvement: we didnt manage to get the Wi-Fi to work, we should have called up about this really. The smaller beds were not comfortable for an adult for 3 nights. The lodge could be better signposted as we just had to guess and try the key in the end."
Verified Guest - Nov 2023
"The glass at the front of the building meant the main room was very hot when the sun was shining. The Wi Fi di not work and despite contacting the office it was not resolved until the following day I was given the Wi Fi providers number and I contacted them myself. When cleaning up at the end of our stay, removing bedding as requested, shocked to find a heavily stained mattress on the double bed, which clearly needed replacing. The reception on site was only staffed for three days out our seven day stay"

"Travelled as a group of 8 - we go away every year and have visited a number of larger properties. This one was nice, but not one of our favourites. Small niggles really and we still had a good time. The issues we found were:First night the electric switches tripped no lights, no kettle!! ....should have been a quick fix to flip the switches back. But meter was in the locked cupboard. Two phone calls and 2 hours later, man came out and opened the cupboard and we could make a cup of tea!! The large picture windows overlook a caravan park - it was quiet but still not great to be completely overlooked. Voiles or privacy films would have been a really quick fix. Underfloor heating didn't work in the second living room. Not enough seating in either living rooms for us all to sit together. The fridge was tiny for a self catering group of 8. Beds that could be unzipped and separated to be either 2 singles or doubles would be a good idea in a place like this. These are only tiny niggles...suggestions to improve and not criticisms at all. Think the electric thing was just bad luck. Although it was annoying at the time as we were tired after long drives and needed tea!!"
Lisa - Oct 2023
"Really spacious, clean accommodation. Only issue was we had was that the hot tub water had gone brown. We asked reception for assistance as per instructions whom asked us to wait a couple of hours until security were available (after 5pm). Tried security at 5pm and it said number was incorrect but by this point reception had gone so we were unable to use it that day"
Verified Guest - Oct 2023
"Lovely spacious accomodations.Little welcome gift in the kitchen which I thought was a nice gesture.Only down side was that the cleaner wasn't great. Fridge needed a wipe over and the floors needed a better hoover through.Location was quiet which I loved and within a short drive to days out.Must add, no taxi locally if you walk the pathless road to the local pub."
Alison - Oct 2023
"We stayed for 4 nights in Helsey House, staff were very friendly and welcoming. House was spotless exceptionally clean. Kitchen had everything u could possibly need, garden is well kept plenty of seating space outside. Location is really nice surroundings bery quiet. Overall our stay was excellent and I'm sure we will book again. We would highly recommend."
Verified Guest - Oct 2023
"Brilliant & cosy cottage far enough out the way to be secluded but close enough to local amenities. Amazing hotub & bathroom with underfloor heating throughout tops it off. The owners, Rob & Sharon are wonderful! (And of course Bonnie) Will definitely be coming back again for longer ASAP!!"
Christopher - Nov 2024
"Beautiful cottage with hot tub and log burner. lovely hosts, peaceful, perfect for our mini break. Hope to return for longer soon!"
Emma - Nov 2024
"Really well equipped house, lovely and warm too which was so nice on a rainy December day! Bath was just lovely and a nice big shower! The property is under a flight path - this did not disturb us at all! Dont be put off! A great location for dogs who hate fireworks as it's in the middle of nowhere. Really beautiful, well converted property. Thank you! "
Phoebe - Nov 2024
"It was everything we wanted for our weekend away and we loved staying here. We'll definitely be back! Our pups absolutely loved the underfloor heating and had so much fun in the garden. In fact Luna came home with a strained tail and according to the vet it was because she was wagging it so much over the weekend!! Very happy pups and hoomans!"
Andrew - Nov 2024
"Lovely cottage. Great location for us. Away from the hustle and bustle. Great hot tub . Lovely helpful non intrusive owners. They have it just right!"
Simon - Nov 2024
"Absolutely loved how well maintained and equipped this cottage is. Plenty of dog walks right on the doorstep. Very friendly host, they were so efficient and communication was excellent. We enjoyed meeting the animals on the farm and the very curious pig penelope. Perfect escape for us and the doggos. Will definitely be back, brilliant value!! Highly recommend. "
Brooke - Nov 2024
"Beautiful property, spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable, had a fabulous break, hot tub amazing x"
Libby - Nov 2024
"Very kind and considerate owners. Couldnt be better. Enormously helpful and extremely pleasant. Charming half-timbered cottage with a great strong shower, cosy kitchen & living room combination and very comfortable bed. Fantastic parking directly next to the rented cottage. Well heated and very charming, and spotlessly clean. Great walks across the fields to the local village of Thaxted and of course within easy travelling distance of the village, replete with half-timbered houses and windmill. "
James - Nov 2024
"We had a wonderful time in Goddard Mead. The cottage was very complete and there were walks on the doorstep. The welcome and stay was very warm. The owners are lovely people."
Annemieke - Nov 2024
"The owners Rob & Sharon, have gone to a great deal of work to sympathetically convert this historic building & we couldn't have had a warmer greeting from them both & of course Bonnie. Goddard's Mead has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The location is in a great area of Essex and would recommend taking the time to wander around Thaxted and other villages/towns nearby to discover it's fascinating history & buildings. "
Carol - Nov 2024
"Such a lovely place to stay in a really beautiful, private location. The owners were really friendly and helpful, nearby if needed but without breaking that sense of privacy. The hot tub was perfect after a day of cycling! One thing to be aware of, the cottage is right under Stansted's flight path, and so there's a lot of aircraft noise. It only took us a couple of hours to get used to it and it didn't spoil our holiday at all, but something to be aware of if you're sensitive to noise. "
Inderjit - Nov 2024
"The lovely cottage is situated on a working farm, but is very private. The owners, Robert and Sharon, are delightful. The cottage is very spacious with good equipment in the kitchen and the bathroom. The bed is really comfortable. The garden is secluded; dog proof and with good furniture. There are numerous walks around. Thaxted has good restaurants. We liked The Star and The Maypole. The Swan and the Indian are not bad either. We thoroughly recommend this place. "
Richard - Nov 2024
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Sharon and Robert were great hosts and made us feel very welcome. The accommodation had everything we needed and was clean, comfortable and secure for our dog Archie. The location was ideal too with plenty of walks to find and Thaxted and surrounding villages are lovely places to visit. We felt our batteries had certainly been recharged during our week and we enjoyed our relaxing break! "
Denise - Nov 2024
"Stayed here for a week from 15 to 22 July with our 2 mini daschund girls who thoroughly enjoyed there stay making new friends in the village of thaxted. The cottage is lovely especially the hot tub a bonus as it was the hottest days of the year so the water was coolled so it was more refreshing the hosts were very welcoming was nice to see there horses being taken to the fields each day you are on the flight path near stansted but I enjoyed watching the planes come in would definitely recommend "
Sharon - Nov 2024
"Lovely accommodation, very peaceful and relaxing and great for dogs as the garden is fully inclosed"

Attractions Near Helsey Farm Cottages

Here are some of the activities and experiences you can enjoy on your visit to Helsey Farm Cottages. If you discover a worthy inclusion to this list on your hot tub break, please let us know and we'll add it so that other visitors can enjoy it too.
Natureland Seal Sanctuary - PE25 1DB
about 6 Miles
Awarded the Lincolnshire Family Attraction of the Year award in recent years this fun day out is recommended. You can see seals and penguins, as well as other animals in the popular pets corner.  Feeding time for the seals and penguins is the real highlight of the day. Entertainment, education and conservation are the main aims of this attraction. Natureland's work with abandoned baby seals has become known worldwide and it's carefully researched rearing and treatment program is now used by many other rescue centres.
Rushmoor Country Park - GU10 1ET
about 13 Miles
Located in Louth in Lincolnshire this is an ideal attraction when you want to get out in the fresh air and explore. There are many animals to see including ponies and piglets which the little ones love.  There are also some amazing birds from hawks and falcons to owls.  Most aspects of this attraction are included in the admission cost and as well as wandering around you get to hold and feed the animals too.  A real highlight are the micro pigs which are just like real pigs but in miniature.  Fully grown they are around the size of a spaniel!  If you get hungry then you can take your own picnic to the picnic areas or head for the tea room selling delicious food and children's meals too.
Pleasure Island - DN35 0PL
about 24 Miles
Wow this is an amazing family theme park and you will probably need the full day to experience it all.  From thrilling rides to family shows, kids of all ages are catered for.  Some of the most popular rides include the Obliterator and The Pendulus, not forgetting the Hypoblaster.   Family shows are entertaining such as the African Acrobat Show which is back by popular demand.  Entrance tickets are good value and if you book online you will receive a discount. To save even more money if you live locally or are visiting the area for a few weeks you could buy a season ticket for around £50 which will allow you entry for the whole season.
The Jungle Zoo - NR31 9EY
about 24 Miles
Centred around a Tropical House in an amazing jungle like setting this is a really unique attraction that will appeal to families.  In the Cleethorpes area of Lincolnshire it's easy to get to and offers a fun yet educational experience.  Referred to as the number one attraction in the area highlights include capuchin monkeys, meerkats, ring tailed lemur and for the children African pygmy goats.  The tropical house features Red Eared and other Terrapins from North America and goldfish amongst other things.  We think The Jungle Zoo represents excellent value for money too.  We recommend a whole day to explore this attraction and ensure you get to see all of the animals resident there.
Bishops Boats Seal Trips - NR23 1RY
about 36 Miles
This is a really unique attraction running daily seal watching trips from the middle of March right through to the end of October.  The experienced skippers will lead you out on one of the traditional wooden boats where you will have the chance to see both common and grey seals.  If you love animals then this is one attraction not to be missed! They also do some boat trips combined with guides on dry land such as seal watching combined with a visit to Blakeney Point Nature Reserve, owned by the National Trust.  We think this attraction is excellent value for money as they keep their admission prices low.
Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens - NR21 0LN
about 37 Miles
if you and your family are interested in nature and wildlife then Pensthorpe Nature Reserve & Gardens is the perfect place for a day out. This beautiful area of national parkland is home to a huge range of common and rare birds from sparrows to Red Crowned Cranes and also has a red squirrel enclosure - part of a conservation programme and now home to a family of adorable squirrels. Other activities to enjoy at Pensthorpe include pond dipping and Landrover discovery tours. Pensthorpe also played host to BBC'S Springwatch in 2010.
