Cotswold Gateway Escape Reviews

"Another great week. Love this place and Ive reviewed a few times now. The perfect peaceful and out of the way retreat which suits me and my usually busy lifestyle. Lovely lodge, immaculately maintained site and friendly staff. Thanks to Vito, Lindsey and all the staff who really do go above and beyond to ensure its a great getaway."
Julia - Apr 2024
"I can't recommend this beautiful cabin highly enough. It is absolutely spotless and the attention to detail is off the scale, it's immaculate. Vito has thought of everything you could possibly need and we have stayed in a lot of places, this was one of, if not the best ever!! Our little holiday was perfect, we had the privacy we desire in our own fenced garden and the hot tub was amazing and again cleaned and maintained to such a high standard. The beds were comfortable, the heated flooring was fab, the bathrooms are gleaming and the living room felt cosy, just like home. We had a wonderful few days exploring the Cotswolds and had delicious meals at both the local pubs which are a walking distance away, one being by the river which was stunning. Do not hesitate to book here. We loved it and will definitely be returning."
Michelle - Apr 2024
"Nice, comfortable lodges in an ideal location for exploring the Cotswold villages and Stratford on Avon.Didnt use the hot tub as it rained for most of our stay.Crockery and utensils supplied are basic. If you are likely to need anything out of the ordinary, take it with you. Some individual jams and honey pots supplied but questionable how long they have been there, as the honey was completely crystallised and solid(runny honey, according to the label).Only heard any noise from the neighbouring haulage yard, if we were outdoors and even then it was minor.Sadly, I have to agree with the previous reviews regarding cleanliness. We found long dark hairs everywhere-including stuck to the wall! The bed sheets were covered with hairs and fluff, to the extent that I had to wash the ones on my childs bed so that they would sleep in them - I never do washing on holiday! We had to put all of the cutlery and crockery through the dishwasher before using it- egg stuck to cutlery, ketchup on plates, tea on mugs- again, I have never had to do this in over 15 years of visiting lodges. The bathrooms were very mouldy on the grouting- so easy to remove but just left to build up. The extractor fan was filthy, there were cobwebs in the bathroom on arrival and stains on the wall next to the toilet (yuk!).None of us felt clean the entire time we stayed and couldnt wait to get home to shower in a clean bathroom.Im not picky and can usually excuse the odd slip up but there was too much evidence of lack of attention to cleaning in these lodges.A word of warning- the lodges are quite close to one another and the TV in our bedroom came on when we were not in the room, presumably because someone in a neighbouring lodge had turned their TV on. Another evening, someone was trying to Airplay to the Lounge TV and tried about 10 times, before giving up. Again, nobody in our Lodge was called Mia or on an iPad.We wouldnt return, solely due to the cleanliness issues."

"Beautiful lodge very warm and clean, has everything you need, full size fridge freezer with a welcome bottle of fizz in, washer/dryer, dishwasher, fan oven , hob, microwave, washing up liquid, 1 dishwasher tablet, 1 washing capsule, tea towels, iron & ironing board, airer and hairdryer, plenty lovely soft towels, robes and slippers for when you use the hot tub, They even provide throws for the furniture for your dog, dog bowels and treats, They really have thought of everything to make your stay perfect"
Rachael - Mar 2024
"fantastic lodge the manager lyndsey was lovely and very helpfull perfect stay."
David - Mar 2024
"Lovely lodge all perfect. If you want a quiet peaceful break this is for you.Helpful staff, private fencing a nice touch."
Mike & Jane - Mar 2024
"What a find! We will be coming back. The lodge was very spacious and clean. Lovely touches too. We came on Mothers Day weekend there was a chocolate heart on the bed ?? plus a bottle fizz in the fridge. Perfect to get straight in the tub. Hottub was clean and hot as we arrived. Plastic wine glasses available too. Perfect getaway. Highly recommend."
Rachel - Mar 2024
"I dont normally leave reviews but I was very very pleased with our stay. The accommodation was huge, beautifully decorated, clean throughout. It was the little extra touches that made it super special. A bottle of Prosecco in the fridge on arrival, plus still and sparkling water. Teas, coffees and condiments such as jam like you would find in a hotel. A dishwasher and machine tablet supplied, hand wash in the bathrooms, washing up liquid, enough toilet roll for the stay, tin foil for baking, salt and pepper pots, cooking oil. These little extras made it a home from home. We usually stay in a caravan and this is our first lodge holiday. We would usually need to think of all of these things if we wanted them. Staff were polite, friendly and helpful. The hot tub was a hit with the whole family. We would definitely love to stay again."
Tanyel - Feb 2024
"Amazing stay !"
Rebecca - Feb 2024
"Our third stay here. Lovely location. Lindsay the manager is so helpful, and on site. Nothing is to much hassle. Great size garden for the dog. Local walks. Pub down the road. The lodge itself is to a high standard and well equipped for all your needs."
Emma - Feb 2024
"Beautiful Lodge with everything you need. Clean and spacious very modern with underfloor heating. Nice bottle of complimentary fizz which we enjoyed in the powerful hot tub. The dog loved it. He was provided with bowls (and a few treats!) poop bags a lovely blanket and the grassed garden was large and very secure. The kitchen facilities were very modern and everything was spotless. Linsey on site was so helpful and met us on arrival and departure. It was nice to have the personal contact rather than be given codes and never see anyone. I would not hesitate to stay here again. Fabulous"
Emma - Feb 2024
"The best lodge we have booked and also the best facilities too. Private gated area so lodges are secure and ideal for families or couples looking for some peace and relaxation. We booked the Oxford for 6 people although there was only 3 of us of one which was my 20 month old son so he could have space to run around in the lodge. Decor was top notch and honestly couldn't fault it. Lindsey was so polite and down to earth its like we have known her for years. Lindsey was always on hand if you ever needed her which we didn't thankfully. Our lodge had all the cutlery you would need and pans, barbecue bits. And the corner shop has everything as well which is a 10 minute walk. This lodge is a must and it was very clean and everything worked perfectly for us and we loved it. We alrwsdy booked it again and the garden is beautiful and everything on the site was maintained really well."
Bash - Feb 2024
"Brilliant & cosy cottage far enough out the way to be secluded but close enough to local amenities. Amazing hotub & bathroom with underfloor heating throughout tops it off. The owners, Rob & Sharon are wonderful! (And of course Bonnie) Will definitely be coming back again for longer ASAP!!"
Christopher - Nov 2024
"Beautiful cottage with hot tub and log burner. lovely hosts, peaceful, perfect for our mini break. Hope to return for longer soon!"
Emma - Nov 2024
"Really well equipped house, lovely and warm too which was so nice on a rainy December day! Bath was just lovely and a nice big shower! The property is under a flight path - this did not disturb us at all! Dont be put off! A great location for dogs who hate fireworks as it's in the middle of nowhere. Really beautiful, well converted property. Thank you! "
Phoebe - Nov 2024
"It was everything we wanted for our weekend away and we loved staying here. We'll definitely be back! Our pups absolutely loved the underfloor heating and had so much fun in the garden. In fact Luna came home with a strained tail and according to the vet it was because she was wagging it so much over the weekend!! Very happy pups and hoomans!"
Andrew - Nov 2024
"Lovely cottage. Great location for us. Away from the hustle and bustle. Great hot tub . Lovely helpful non intrusive owners. They have it just right!"
Simon - Nov 2024
"Absolutely loved how well maintained and equipped this cottage is. Plenty of dog walks right on the doorstep. Very friendly host, they were so efficient and communication was excellent. We enjoyed meeting the animals on the farm and the very curious pig penelope. Perfect escape for us and the doggos. Will definitely be back, brilliant value!! Highly recommend. "
Brooke - Nov 2024
"Beautiful property, spotlessly clean, well equipped and very comfortable, had a fabulous break, hot tub amazing x"
Libby - Nov 2024
"Very kind and considerate owners. Couldnt be better. Enormously helpful and extremely pleasant. Charming half-timbered cottage with a great strong shower, cosy kitchen & living room combination and very comfortable bed. Fantastic parking directly next to the rented cottage. Well heated and very charming, and spotlessly clean. Great walks across the fields to the local village of Thaxted and of course within easy travelling distance of the village, replete with half-timbered houses and windmill. "
James - Nov 2024
"We had a wonderful time in Goddard Mead. The cottage was very complete and there were walks on the doorstep. The welcome and stay was very warm. The owners are lovely people."
Annemieke - Nov 2024
"The owners Rob & Sharon, have gone to a great deal of work to sympathetically convert this historic building & we couldn't have had a warmer greeting from them both & of course Bonnie. Goddard's Mead has everything you need for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The location is in a great area of Essex and would recommend taking the time to wander around Thaxted and other villages/towns nearby to discover it's fascinating history & buildings. "
Carol - Nov 2024
"Such a lovely place to stay in a really beautiful, private location. The owners were really friendly and helpful, nearby if needed but without breaking that sense of privacy. The hot tub was perfect after a day of cycling! One thing to be aware of, the cottage is right under Stansted's flight path, and so there's a lot of aircraft noise. It only took us a couple of hours to get used to it and it didn't spoil our holiday at all, but something to be aware of if you're sensitive to noise. "
Inderjit - Nov 2024
"The lovely cottage is situated on a working farm, but is very private. The owners, Robert and Sharon, are delightful. The cottage is very spacious with good equipment in the kitchen and the bathroom. The bed is really comfortable. The garden is secluded; dog proof and with good furniture. There are numerous walks around. Thaxted has good restaurants. We liked The Star and The Maypole. The Swan and the Indian are not bad either. We thoroughly recommend this place. "
Richard - Nov 2024
"We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and Sharon and Robert were great hosts and made us feel very welcome. The accommodation had everything we needed and was clean, comfortable and secure for our dog Archie. The location was ideal too with plenty of walks to find and Thaxted and surrounding villages are lovely places to visit. We felt our batteries had certainly been recharged during our week and we enjoyed our relaxing break! "
Denise - Nov 2024
"Stayed here for a week from 15 to 22 July with our 2 mini daschund girls who thoroughly enjoyed there stay making new friends in the village of thaxted. The cottage is lovely especially the hot tub a bonus as it was the hottest days of the year so the water was coolled so it was more refreshing the hosts were very welcoming was nice to see there horses being taken to the fields each day you are on the flight path near stansted but I enjoyed watching the planes come in would definitely recommend "
Sharon - Nov 2024
"Lovely accommodation, very peaceful and relaxing and great for dogs as the garden is fully inclosed"
Fleur - Nov 2024
"Had such a lovely, relaxing break. Cottage was immaculate, equipped with everything you need and some lovely added extras too. Couldnt recommended more"
Antonia - Nov 2024
"Had a lovely weekend away staying here. Would love to come back later on in the year."
Rachel - Nov 2024
"Lovely friendly owners. Couldnt do enough when the power went down due to the storm. Very well equipped and clean. Very warm cottage. Our dog enjoyed the enclosed outside space and us the hot tub!"

Ash End House Childrens Farm -
about 32 Miles
With family fun for everyone a trip to this farm makes a memorable day out in Staffordshire.  Some highlights of the day might include the chicks and ducklings in a basket, goat kid walking, bottle feeding the lambs or bunny brushing.  Located in the Tamworth area of Stafforshire this attraction is easy to get to.  Look out for special events taking place throughout the year including weekend and school holidays when extra activities may be organised.  Don't forget to meet Chirpy while you are there - the extra large chick!
Catanger Llama Trekking - NN12 8LJ
about 34 Miles
This is a really unique attraction and certainly worth a visit in our opinion.  Established in 1995 and situated in the heart of the Northamptonshire countryside this attraction will appeal to those looking for something a little different.  You can't ride the animals but you can trek alongside them and enjoy the fantastic scenery.  From farm tracks to country lanes the gentle animals will carry your rucksack for you along the way.  There are personally guided treks available all year round and you will have your own Llama for the trek.
Queenswood Country Park - HR6 0PY

Suited to families with children of all ages this is a fantastic attraction in Northamptonshire.  There are many special events held throughout the year so don't forget to check what's happening while you are staying in the region.  Some highlights include the lambing weekends and the monthly local food fayres.
Old Dairy Farm Country Shopping and Craft Centre - LE14 3PF
about 36 Miles
From shopping to home cooked refreshments this is a wonderful day out in the pretty village of Upper Stowe.  You can enjoy amazing views over the Northamptonshire countryside and wander around the complex of stone built farm buildings.  Each building houses something different such as the Occasions Florist, Itsy Bitsy Gifts, Hayrack Gallery and Sheer Delights Lingerie.  When it's time for a rest the Barn Restaurant and Tea Room is the place to go.  There is a small selection of animals at the centre too which younger children will love.  They currently have two Kune Kune pigs, sheep, hens and ducks.  If you are looking for upmarket holiday accommodation in the Northamptonshire area then the luxury lodges at Wicksteed Park are sure to impress.
Farmer Gows - SN7 8DA
about 37 Miles
Farmer Gows is a recommended attraction in the Faringdon area of Oxfordshire and will be especially suited to families with young children.  The little ones will love coming to see the farm animals including pigs, cows and lambs.  The meet the animals session takes place every day and includes handling the animals, walking the goats, feeding the pigs and cows and egg collecting.  Look out for special seasonal events throughout the year such as the Halloween Party, Lambing and children's workshops.  The latest news from the farm is that they have some Saddleback piglets and Speckledy chicks arriving shortly.
Puzzlewood - GL16 8QB

Puzzlewood is a somewhat unique attraction within the beautiful Forest of Dean. Visitors can explore the mile of pathways passing over wooden bridges and through some stunning tree and rock formations. The maze of pathways are quite enchanting and the site has recently been used as a location for the BBC1 production of Merlin. While enjoying the splendour of nature there are many types of wildlife to meet along the way including Shetland ponies, Donkeys and Highland Cattle.
