Welsh Lodge Fishing Guide

Let me set the scene. You wake up, refreshed and full of excitement for the day ahead. You gaze out of your bedroom window and are greeted by a beautiful fishing lake overlooking a vast country landscape.

Croeso I gymru or as we brits like to put it, welcome to Wales, a renowned fishing haven, ideal for all aspiring anglers looking for a sure catch.

With 2,700km of sea fishing coastline and over 500 wild lakes and reservoirs to explore, you will need a base with an ideal location where you can rest your head and arms after a long day holding up a rod. Whether your thing is sea fishing or coarse fishing, Wales is trhe perfect destination to test out your skills. With plenty of tackle shops, Wales has many options for guided fishing and even more places to stay.

Booking a lodge with its own private hot tub makes for the perfect base to return to after fishing and will keep all non-anglers on your holiday happy too.

We have picked out three amazing fishing lodges with hot tubs to boot!

Bron Eifion Lodges, Gwynedd – six-acre Coarse Lake

Bron Eifion Lodges offer fishing from outside your lodge
Bron Eifion Lodges offer fishing from outside your lodge

Classed as a commercial fishery featured regularly on TV and in National Fishing Magazines, Bron Eifion has a reputation of being one of the best well-stocked lakes in the area. The site is truly a fisherman’s paradise, equipped with a six-acre Coarse Lake home to common, mirror and hybrid carp, tench, barbel, cub, roach and more!

Located between the village of Criccieth and Llanystumdwy, there is plenty to do when you fancy a break from the lake. Take a walk into the villages and explore the plethora of castles, beaches, restaurants and pubs that they have to offer. Llanystumdwy is also the birthplace of Lloyd George!

The site has hosted many international matches and cups and can boast to being the first commercial fishery in Wales to do so. Between historical landmarks and international matches, this is the perfect location to soak up the Welsh culture.

When you’re not fishing in the lake, you can make a splash in the heated private hot tub next to your lodge.

The site’s log cabin accommodation has been described by guests as a “lovely peaceful spot at a reasonable price”. With a king-size bed, well equipped kitchen, terrace and mobile barbecue and central heating, the family-run lodges are ideal for a relaxing self-catered stay.

There is truly no wonder why Bron Eifion was the first fishery in Wales to be honoured with the title of “Centre of Excellence” by the Welsh Federation of Coarse Anglers. Don’t believe us? Why not check their website yourself but be aware, you might just find yourself on the end of their hook!

Belan Bach Lodges, award-winding fishing facilities

Belan Bach Lodges with hot tubs
Belan Bach Lodges are a perfect place to relax and enjoy fishing

Situated above the small village of Llangadfan, Belan Bach lodges enjoy a particularly panoramic view over the Banwy Valley.

With elevated balconies, the beautiful scenery found just outside your window is definitely a selling point of the site. If you are looking for a hybrid holiday that calls for a Welsh adventure and a relaxing break by the pond, this is the perfect place for you!

Only 6 miles away from Lake Vryrnwy and its RSPB centre and water sports, you can enjoy a wonderful wildlife walking trail or become one of the many people who have participated in the rich 100-year fishing history of the lake. Reserve an exclusive fly-fishing boat experience for the day.

While Bron Eifion may be unbeatable with its award-winding fishing facilities, there is no better tourist base than Belan Bach. Only 8 miles away from Mathrafal Castle and a short distance from King Arthur’s Labyrinth, you will never run out of things to do and with fishing available on-site, it really doesn’t get any “betta” than this or does it…

Plassey Holiday Park, Denbighshire – Free coarse fishing

Plassey has some great options for coarse fishing
Plassey has some great options for coarse fishing

Plassey Park has a five-star leisure facility, a retail village and a golf course. Nestled in 250 acres of park and woodland in the picturesque Dee Valley, North Wales, Plassey is a multi-award-winning luxury holiday park and here’s why. Plassey’s uniqueness is attributed to its architecture and design.

Converted Edwardian farm buildings are home to over 20 independent craft and retail outlets from clothing boutiques, homeware and fragrance to hair and beauty salons.

Plassey may be one of the only fishing sites to truly offer it all! To lovers of the great outdoors, Plassey offers amazing nature trails, fishing ponds, a nine-hole golf course, a driving range and a pitch and putt course! You’ll be booking your next stay before you have even repacked your case for the drive home!

Swimmers will also enjoy the heated indoor swimming pool and outdoor lounge terrace. From playing mermaids in the heated indoor swimming pool, to letting their imaginations run riot in the adventure playground, kids will love Plassey almost as much as you will.

Plassey offers five Coarse fishing ponds completely free of charge. These ponds are a 10-minute walk from the and are well-stocked with a diverse variety of fish, including Carp, Tench, Roach and Perch. You’ll need a current valid fishing license which can be easily acquired from most Post Offices or online.

Rediscover luxury with a pamper session and start the fitness journey of your dreams with the park’s own personal trainers, boot camp and training sessions. Fishing may be the passion that draws you to the park but who knows what else you may discover on-site!

With three spectacular sites to choose from, you really do have a lot to think about! As proven, Wales is one of the best places in the world for a fishing holiday so make sure you don’t miss out on the catch of a lifetime.

Still unsure? Wales is such a popular angling spot that it even has its own website dedicated to fishing. Check it out here.
