Upton Lakes Lodges Reviews

"Every thing you need in cabin if staying more than 3 nights could change the towels"
Craig - Oct 2024
"Lodge was beautiful had everything we needed ."
Verified Guest - Sep 2024
"We stayed in lodge 4. Brilliant hottub, had all the amenities required. Could do with sprucing up a bit, but great value for what we paid for the lodge in August bank Holiday week! It's a fishing lodge so absolutely spot on and perfect to use as a Base to explore other areas"
Martin - Aug 2024
"We stayed for 4 nights with my 2 little girls and we had a brilliant getaway. The lodge was a great size, clean and had nice little touches. The kitchen was well equipped, nice views of the lake from the lounge & bedrooms, and everyone loved the hot tub. We cought lots of fish, mainly perch and carp. Can get essentials from nearby shops and so many options for days out to beautiful beaches and towns (around 30min away). We will definitely return to Upton Lakes."
Laura - Aug 2024
"This accommodation was unsafe (without running water) and did not meet the advertised specification. The accommodation was advertised as providing:A starter pack of logs, these were not provided and when I asked about them the manager said that there would be a charge.Gas for the BBQ, this was empty on arrival and we had to ask for gas to enable us to use the BBQ.Dressing gowns were not provided, which meant we had to use our bathroom towels when using the hot tub. The sofa bed in the lodge was broken on arrival and we were provided with a fold up foam bed.The most concerning issue however, is the fact that we did not have any water at all for the second day of our holiday and the morning of departure."
Verified Guest - Aug 2024
"Had a 4 night stay: lodge itself was quite old and as such in need of some refurbishments. Although it was more or less clean and did not smell, this did not affect our stay tbh. Location wise would need a car to get around as nothing to do around the site. Internet was intermittent. Hot tub was old/small. On last evening had an issue with the water, it started to come out brown and then stopped, notified site manager, although polite he was not sure of the problem and was unable to sort it and as a result we could not shower in the morning as the hot water pressure was so low and would stop coming out. All in all first 3 days were ok but have stayed at better, shame about the water issue on the last night/morning. Recommend for those who want to be off grid."
Fatima - Aug 2024
"Lovely relaxing holiday. Very peaceful and quiet. The lodge we stayed in was homely and cosy. Would definitely recommend."
Verified Guest - Aug 2024
"Great back to basics get away Had a fantastic 4 night stay enjoying the luxury of the quiet environment and the relaxation of a hot tub Great area for getting out and visiting local attractions Personal favourites wereExeter Wookey hole Darlingtons glass factory Great base for a quiet relaxing break Limited internet /wifi which we enjoyed may not be great if your big on using tech"
Taz - Jul 2024
"Nice lodge, we've stayed here 3 times, the only downside is the lack of TV reception and poor WIFI, but its private and easy to walk out to the lakeside. I advice you take an electric fan for the summer months as the lodge can get very warm at night, also a sharp knife if your planning on cutting meat & veg for cooking. On site staff are brilliant and very helpful."
Verified Guest - Jul 2024
"Everything you need was there. The outside could use a little sprucing up but all in all very comfortable."
Catherine - Jul 2024
"Fantastic lodge. Would like to return when possible."
Julia - Jun 2024
"Lovely location so peaceful, lodge clean , tidy & modern"
Debbie - Jun 2024
"Newly refurbished and it showed, very tastefully done and very comfortable. The space outside the lodge was very good to and secure for the little one and dog."
Verified Guest - Jun 2024
"The lodge was probably a lot nicer 10 years agoIt was ok.. we wouldnt returnThe lodge and location is in need of some TLC. You can tell the lodges which are rented out, they have peeling exterior paint and look tired. Our lodge, at first glance, looked ok inside. It harboured an unpleasant smell, which stayed for the duration of our stay (we purchased air freshners but they didnt help much). The inside needed a good clean. Thick dust on the skirting boards and mold in the bathrooms was off putting. The Wi-Fi was poor too"
Verified Guest - Jun 2024
"We stayed in Lodge 10.very clean and fresh and has been updated with new sofas all new ninja kitchen utensils. Just a really nice homely feel to it.Hot tub was clean. BBQ on the deck was nice and the views are lovely. Already planning next year's holiday would stay in lodge 10 in a heartbeat."
Mark - Jun 2024
"Just absolutely awful..Terrible management, unclean, noisy."
David - Jun 2024
"We had an amazing time at Upton lakes, the lodges had everything you needed and the surroundings are stunning. Its not the ritz, but youre not paying ritz prices, and the outdoor furniture could have been updated but they were ample, and it didnt detract from sitting outside with a glass of vino listening to the surrounding birds singing with the family and watching the birds with their babys. We had two lodges, 1 booked for us and the other for family, both different and both nice. Familys had a sauna but it wasnt used so cant comment.Very limited WiFi but its very rural so we didnt expect anything else. Plus we did get internet periodically which was a bonus.. There is a village nearby that has everything you could need, plus takeaways and a big Tesco for groceries and fuel. All in all the family thoroughly enjoyed our time there, it was a really nice relaxing holiday and would visit again without a doubt, plus the staff were lovely."

"Would be helpful if from road had a Hoseasons sign as postcode is incorrect, drove round block 3 times before trying turning. Didn't receive welcome email, no one on site to ask. Met lovely lady who looks after site who helped us. Lodge a bit tired could do with an update of bathroons. Road to lodges very rough beware. That said good location for getting around, clean but beware if you don't like the quiet as there a just lodges the lake and that's it. No WiFi and mobile signal non-existent.Suited us would go back again."
Verified Guest - May 2024
"Great holiday location and cullumpton is so dog friendly as most of Devon is .Great walks for dogs just 5mins down the road .Everyone picks up their dog waste and puts it in the bins !The lodges are very private and the outdoor areas are lovely.Plenty of wildlife on the lakes ."
Toni - Apr 2024
"Amazing break at upton lodges, loved the hot tub and sauna, can't wait to return!"
Verified Guest - Apr 2024
"We had a lovely break at Upton Lakes The site is well maintained and peaceful Our lodge was at a fantastic standard and well maintained Although we stayed in a pet friendly lodge you wouldnt have known as there were no obvious signs or smells We were disappointed that we had not received a welcome pack prior to arrival with information about accessing our lodge and that on arrival there was no one at reception ( would recommend that if you havent had an email regarding check in you contact Hoseasons as there was no number to contact onsite)On our second attempt to check in a off duty member of staff helped us get into our booked lodge We had a little issue with our boiler however this was dealt with very quickly and efficiently The only other disappointment was our hot tub was not at a hot temperature and had very little jet pressure and 1/4 was not working at all Unfortunately the onsite staff were unable to assist as access was locked by the owner Overall a good experience with a few minor issues Would happily return with the hope that the hot tub would be fixed and at an appropriate temperature"

"A very tired looking lodge, needs money spent on it yo bring it up to your description."

"Our 1st lodge great hoilday and that impressed we booked agaib"

"Lovely view. Lodges clean. Good quality kitchen ware. Staff very helpful. Shops very near. Lovely walks."
Claire - Feb 2024
"We stayed in lodge 4 during new year. We booked before reading the reviews and was then a bit concerned with so many negative ones what the lodge would be like however we had the best time, the lodge exceeded expectations, it was clean, big and had everything we needed for our stay. Despite it raining the whole time we were never bored. Very close to near by food shops. The hot tub was lovely (although we did wonder if the water had been cleaned from the previous users however it didnt stop us from using it). Would recommend staying there and hope to one day return and stay back in lodge 4 specifically."
Leanne - Jan 2024
"Fantastic lodge with beautiful view on to the lake."
Merrilyn - Dec 2023
"Was looking forward to a well deserved break, chilling in the (hot tub ????????????) that's what they called it, I've been staying in lodge's with hot tub for a number of years, even on this site, AND THAT'S NO HOT TUB BABE , IT'S A GLORIFIED BATH OUT SIDE, Very disappointed, and felt fobbed of, so won't be going bac"
Verified Guest - Nov 2023
"We arrived on Sunday afternoon after a 6 hour drive but there was no one about rang the number provided and was seen to within minuets . In the lodge and sorted within 10 minuets and having a well deserved cup of tea . The Lodge was very comfortable as I am larger than most reading a review about the beds I thought the worst but as I say everything nice and comfortable and easy to use . The only thing is there is no WIFI and the phone signal is poor but that can be a big bonus"
John - Jul 2022
"Amazing holiday second time we have been and loved it! Great accommodation, lovely location, spotlessly clean and lovely maintenance staff"
Jennifer - Jul 2022
"Needs a bit of work to tidy up abit loose handrails, hot tub lid broken in two light bulbs not working."
Steven - Jul 2022
"We had the best time! Peace and quiet. Staff could not have been more helpful. Wonderful wildlife around the lodge including ducks, geese and peacocks. We were in lodge 5, this lodge allows dogs in. It was spotless! Everything you could possibly need was in the lodge. The hot tub was amazing and so restful. We will be returning next year. I highly recommend this location."
Nicola - Jul 2022
"Didn’t see any staff, but we didn’t actually need too. Lodge had everything that we needed so we had a nice stay. Was ideal for the wedding we attended at Upton barn and walled garden."
Christine - Jun 2022
"Had a fantastic weekend away So peaceful and lovely lodge Great place if you want to relax with the town close by My dog loved exploring the area And the fishing lakes are fantastic Enjoyed it so much have booked again for November"
Clare - Jun 2022
"Stayed in lakeside escape the lodge was spotlessly clean and had everything you need for a nice relaxing holiday. Mark the on site caretaker was very helpful and approachable. Great holiday was had and will rebook."
Mark - Jun 2022
"Very peaceful. Nice lodge could do with a facelift but not the end of the world. Didnt use the hot tub. It looked grubby. Enjoyed the fishing. Could do with a bit of fishery management and some more info on the fishing. The folder was quite informative but again could do with updating. At the end of the folder it ask us to leave a comment in the book. Where ? Did not meet any staff hence the score on helpfulness. All said and done would recommend."
